Two for Tuesday

Something new
1. What anniversary or milestone have you recently celebrated?
well, I suppose the most recent would have been my 22nd birthday, aug 27th. Although I have now been working in this new lab for a month. And I finished an interlude in my story.
2. What did you to do celebrate? I went to a DMB concert on my birthday, bracketed by a horrible drive…and I didn’t celebrate either of the other things, so there! I’m boring. I wish I had something to celebrate.

This or That

1. Heroines: Ariel (Little Mermaid) or Belle (Beauty & the Beast)? Belle. She’s exactly like me. She likes to read, she’s scientific, she’s adventurous, brown hair and eyes…sings, too 🙂

2. More heroines: Mulan or Pocahontas? This is a toughie, cause Mulan is Chinese but everyone says I look like Pocahontas. Probably Mulan

3. Princesses: Snow White or Cinderella? Cinderella.

4. Toy Story: Buzz or Woody? I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen the entire Toy Story movie, but probably Woody.

5. Animals: Simba (Lion King) or Bambi? Simba, of course. Circle of Life, baby!

6. Naughty boys: Peter Pan or Pinocchio? I like Peter Pan better, but Pinocchio did more stuff.

7. Sidekicks: Sebastian the Crab (Little Mermaid) or Jiminy Cricket (Pinocchio)? Sebastian! He’s so much more fun. Besides, what could be better than rasta crab?

8. Villians: Wicked Queen (Snow White) or Cruella DeVil (101 Dalmations)? I don’t like either of them, and the Wicked Queen scared me when I was little.

9. Classics: Goofy or Pluto? Pluto. He didn’t get hurt quite so often.

10. And of course: Mickey or Donald? Mickey. He’s cuter and you can understand him.

The American Medical Association has declared that the long term implications of drugs or medical procedures must be more fully considered.

Over the past few years, more money has been spent on breast implants and Viagra than is spent on Alzheimer’s disease research. It is now projected that by the year 2015 there will be fifty million people wandering around with huge breasts and erections who can’t remember what to do with them.

Brain teasers that will make you groan …

A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose between three rooms. The first is full of raging fires, the second is full of assassins with loaded guns, and the third is full of lions that haven’t eaten in 3 years. Which room is safest for him?
A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for over 5 minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go out together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together. How can this be?
There are two plastic jugs filled with water. How could you put all of this water into a barrel, without using the jugs or any dividers, and still tell which water came from which jug?
What is black when you buy it, red when you use it, and gray when you throw it away?
Can you name three consecutive days without using the words Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday?
This is an unusual paragraph. I’m curious how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so plain you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is unusual though. Study it, and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out.
Answers:
The third. Lions that haven’t eaten in three years are dead.
The woman was a photographer. She shot a picture of her husband, developed it, and hung it up to dry.
Freeze them first. Take them out of the jugs and put the ice in the barrel. You will be able to tell which water came from which jug.
The answer is Charcoal.
Sure you can: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow!
The letter “e,” which is the most common letter in the English language, does not appear once in the long paragraph…

American Beauty

Standard

You know the part in American Beauty where the boy asks the girl if she wants to know the most beautiful thing he ever saw and he showed her this plastic bag fluttering in the wind amongst some leaves? Well, one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen (I’m hedging my bets here, hoping that my child will be the most beautiful thing I’ll ever see), ironically enough, happened while listening to the American Beauty score in the winter of my junior year of college. I had just gotten out of a final, and it was snowing. It was the beautiful kind of snow that just floats down but covers the ground fully. The whole world was white, and going in perfect time to the music. American Beauty was scored by Thomas Newman, who also did Meet Joe Black and The Shawshank Redemption. I don’t know what it was about that day, but it was just perfect, and the music was exactly the theme for it. I don’t think I’ll ever feel that much like crying at the beauty of nature. And I had just gotten out of a final, so that made it even better smile
and you’re wondering why I tell you this at the beginning of October, right? Well, it would have been at the end of september if I had gotten my act together and told you earlier. But it;s just because I’ve been listening to the score. Some tv commercial reminded me of it. And speaking of commercials, has anyone else noticed that the music for car commercials (I mean like Toyota ads, etc, not the ‘c’mon-down-ain’t-we-got-a-deal-for-you ads) has gotten really good? I wonder if there’s a place where you can find out how does that music. And call me weird, but I love the music in the Lowe’s commercials.
Heh. Deep to vapid. Music defines my life.

PromoGuy’s Monday Mission 2.40

1. I just got back from a family reunion. It was ok, but I find those

gatherings a little boring. Does your family ever have any reunions or annual

get-togethers? Do you enjoy them?
It’s been so long since I’ve been to a family reunion. I think I was younger than ten the last time we had one. Of course, I have immediate family get-togethers probably four times a year.

2. A gal I work with told me that when her husband’s drivers licsence

comes up for renewal, she swipes it. She says he won’t ever pose for pictures

and that’s the only way she can get a photo of him. Is that not creepy? Are

you a picture person? Do you like taking photos, and having yours taken?
My mom is a picture person. She takes pictures of everything, often in multiple. So I grew up having my picture taken. This is probably why I don’t remember my childhood; it’s all in pictures, so I don’t have to. I don’t mind having my picture taken, although I never seem to get the kind of pictures I’m hoping for.

3. Time for show and tell: post a recent photo of yourself! Ok, it’s not so recent, but it’s the only one I’ve got:

It’s from ’97, my senior picture.

4. I have a cousin I always knew as Jay. As he got into college, he

began to go by Greg. Turns out is name was Greg, Junior. Jay was short for

Junior! Can’t blame him for changing it. Did you ever have a nick-name

growing up? How did it come about? Did you ever give anyone a nickname that

stuck?
Well, if I ever played a sport I was Shew, cause there was inevitably another Jennifer.

5. Since I don’t have cable, a friend promised to send me a few

episodes of “Trading Spaces,” the show where folks redecorate someone else’s

home (and I’m still waaaaiiiting on that tape). But that got me to thinking

about how I’d change my own house if I were able. And the room I’d do first

would be the bathroom. If you could design the bathroom of your dreams, what

would it be like? Spare no expense!
A bathroom? Hmm. Huge shower. Spa tub. Lots of storage space in the linen closet. A green toilet. 🙂

6. I’ve been trying to catch up on the early seasons of Buffy the

Vampire Slayer in re-runs, though I’ve been told to buy the DVDs. But I think

I’d rather borrow them if I could. But there are a few television shows I’d like

to own on DVD (like “The Flash” and “Max Headroom”). What shows (if any) do

you own in a video collection? What TV shows would you like to see collected on

DVD or video?
Technically I own the Roswell shows, but I don’t think I could ever see them all. I have all of the first three seasons of Buffy thanks to FX and Alex, who taped them for me. I have the rest of the seasons on tape as well, but it’s anyone’s guess as to where they are. I also have both Roswell and seasons 5, 6, and whatever of 7 it has been on cd for watching on the comp. I’d like to have Roswell and Buffy on DVD, if they ever put out Roswell in the US, and Alias, 24, and Angel. Course, I suppose we have to get the damn dvd player first. Again.

7. I recently watched “Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang” again, first time

since I was little. It held up pretty well, unlike some movies that are better

in your memory than they are when you see them again (like “E.T.” good movie,

but for me, better as a memory). Do you have any favorite movies from your

childhood? Do you think you would still enjoy them if you watched them today?
I bet I’d still like Robin Hood, the disney version, although technically the Prince of Thieves version was from childhood as well. I used to hate the part of the Wizard of Oz where they meet the witch; I think I’d be ok with that now 🙂 I used to love the Secret of Nimh, but I haven’t seen that in forever.

BONUS: Don’t you know you’re sleeping in a spotlight? Egad, that’s why I’ve been an insomniac lately.
