Monday Mission 3.30

1. Have you ever had, or known someone who has had, a “Mid-Life Crisis?” What happened? Is there such a thing or is it just an excuse? Hmm. I’ve maybe been having a quarter-life crisis, as John Mayer so aptly named it…figuring out what to do with my life, don’t you know. But I haven’t really known anyone to totally change their life cause they became “middle-aged”…although I did know one guy who went out and bought a Miata. He sold it later 😉

2. Have you ever had a dream so vivid, that you woke up with certain emotions towards a person for what happened in your dream, even though they didn’t do a thing to deserve it in real life? What did you feel and and what was the dream? Well. I’ve had vivid dreams but I don’t think I’ve ever had a dream about a person where I woke up not liking them…

3. I think everyone is creative in some way or other. Some people draw, some play music, some write, some cook, some build or sew. How do you express your creativity? Have you ever made money from it? I’ve sold some of my necklaces if that’s what you mean 😉 but seriously. Anyone who knows me knows I’m highly creative. I draw, I write, I design websites…if anyone wants to pay me for making a website for them I’d be more than willing 😉

4. Speaking of creativity, I display some of my artwork on my website. It is there for everyone to view, but if I learned it was stolen and used commercially without my permission or being paid, I would be furious. Has anything you created ever been stolen? How did you handle it? As far as I know no one has stolen any of my online work. It would bother me, and I hope it doesn’t happen, but if they had a good reason (and didn’t display it as theirs) I might be nice about it.

5. I imagine the question above is similar to what the music industry is going through with file sharing. Do you think downloading music via file sharing is “stealing?” Is taking songs without paying for them any different than someone taking your work without your permission?

6. How do you feel about the RIAA targeting everyone (parents, teenagers, grandparents) who share songs over the Internet with expensive lawsuits? Should they be selective in who they subpoena, or should all who violate copyrights be treated equally? Or are they going too far? Should the music be free? Personally I think it sucks that they’re doing that. I think it’s just like taping songs off the radio…I mean, it’s for your own personal use. I have to say there are very few full cds I’ve made of songs I got off a file-trading server when I don’t have (or am not planning on getting) the cd. I like the real thing anyway, but I don’t want to have to pay $15 for a cd when I just want one song. I like the Apple iMusic idea, and if I had OS X I’d probably use it. 99 cents a song isn’t bad. No restrictions on how you use it, either.

7. On the same thought, what do you think pay-per-song concepts such as iMusic and BuyMusic.com? Will they succeed? Is this the solution? If not, what is?  Hmm. See above. They could just make cd’s lower-priced…I mean, doesn’t it only cost a dollar to make a cd? So why do we have to pay twenty times that?

BONUS: Why can’t we be ourselves like we were yesterday?

Sometimes you have to leave it all behind and forget today and live yesterday.
