This Legolas Lithograph would make a nice gift, don’t you think? 😉
[edit]*moan* I want this Legolas calendar! Yes I am a fangirl. Haven’t you figured that out by now?[/edit]
I have a small wishlist, which is, of course, at home, not at work. Therefore you’ll just have to settle for going to Amazon or AE and search for my wishlists there, or you could always click on the links beneath this post 😉 Seriously, folks, what (cheap) things do you want for christmas? I think I’ve got my parents taken care of, but I have no idea what to get Olga, my roommate, for instance. She gave me chocolate and the mini Trilogy version of the LotR calendar. Mmmr. And this next paycheck is basically going to pay the rent and the bills, so I won’t have a lot left over to spend on gifts. Sigh.
In case you were wondering, I went through and changed some of the ads/affilates through out the site. I’d really appreciate it if you did some shopping through those links…activity is nice, and there are some good deals. Hopefully they’re not too intrusive. lol. do your shopping through my site! whee!
In case you were wondering, I got my latest orgo test back, and I did much better. I guess the flash cards helped. Though that means I have to make a heckuva lot before the final…grumble grumble. Studying sucks. The final really will determine my grade…I think I’m still hovering about the mean, when I want to be on the happy side of the bell curve…*dreads orgo studying* And silly library, getting both (rather long) books that I had on request in on the same week…both due the week of the final. I guess we’ll see if I finish them. I’m sure there are requests for both of them so I won’t be able to renew. Ah well. There’s always another hold, I suppose…
Still pent up about that saturday lab. I really don’t like the fact that I have to take it; but I guess I will. Doesn’t mean I have to like it! I know I spent all those saturdays in high school and college getting up absurdly early to make it to track meets, and spent much longer times at said meets than the piddly 8am – 2pm lab will take up, but at least those were fun and I wasn’t graded…ugh. Did I mention the fact that there’s an Arthurian Mythology class offered Wednesday nights (which is of course the same time as the orgo class)? Sigh. One of these days I will be able to take fun classes. Tap dance for free, anyone?
Because I really like this picture and you might see more of it soon, once I find a nice hi-rez version…

I’ll be around the bend
Standard
I thought this was pretty cool, and right for the season and all… “May all your hopes and wishes come true.” I hope that I didn’t do poorly on the orgo test, which we’ll get back tonight. (just on the off chance that someone likes the art print, you can click on it to buy it and send a little cash my way 🙂 )
Speaking of orgo, yes, there was a test on monday, it was deceptively easy. Maybe it was just that I actually did study for this test, but it always makes me nervous when I finish early, even after checking my answers several times. On the one hand it’s great that it was ‘easy,’ I studied more for this test than I did the last two, but it worries me that other people thought it was easy too and therefore the curve will be high. But as Alex pointed out, if I did well I don’t have to worry. Here’s to not worrying. And here’s to Leo getting a job until April! Whee! Here’s NOT to having to take orgo lab next semester, at EIGHT AM on SATURDAYS. grr. argh. Remind me again why I think I could be a doctor?
So I still haven’t gotten any more christmas presents than the one for my mom, and I need to figure out what to get the various and sundry people in my life as gifts. And people keep asking me what I want… but I honestly haven’t thought about the ‘little things’ that it would make sense for people to buy me. You know, things that aren’t a computer, or keyboard, or a digital camera. But yes, candles are accepted 🙂 I went through a fair number of them while studying orgo and writing NaNo. Perhaps this Orlando Bloom calendar?
But I’m still here, just not feeling very writerly, which I suppose is natural after the somewhat artificial writerlyness of last month. I promise I’ll get around to finishing Novare soon. My mom says that aside from overall fixing up, it’s very good. She’s not biased or anything 😉
On the happy side, got a christmas tree with Kate last night. V. pretty from outside. Inside ain’t bad either 🙂 I went with a slightly more expensive tree because it smelled…so…good. Still does. Nice to walk into the apartment and have mmm, pine scent. Now I just need more ornaments and lights and do something with the Free Boughs I got from that nice little place on Watson that didn’t make me pay tax because I am a returning customer. Whee Christmas!
because they’re pretty:
I think this was talking about us
StandardThis article from theage.com.au – The Age is a few years old, but I think it was talking about the Lord of the Rings community I was in (still am, theoretically, though the site doesn’t work and the admin disappeared on us), Elenath. Funny how I didn’t know it then…wonder if I can resurrect the site.
(ETA 01-19-05: Here’s the relevant bit from the story, since the Age requires registration now. Feel free to visit the link and read the rest of the article, though. it’s rather amusing.)
Elenath
Is there anyone out there in blogland who hasn’t taken sides on the Legolas/Aragorn debate?
If so, get thee to Elenath, where you’ll read more than enough about their respective merits, not to mention the radical Elijah Wood theory held by an active minority. You’ll also learn not to call him Legolas: it’s “Orli” (for actor Orlando Bloom).
Elenath serves as a kind of chat room for its 18 or so female members, who download their day’s news, with obligatory passing references to their chosen character.
These blogs come not singly, but in sets, or in blog parlance, cliques, also known as Web rings, which you can follow around the many, many Lord of the Rings fan sites on the Internet.
There’s one ring Tolkien didn’t think of.
one-magic-day.net/elenath (Ed. Note: This is the site that doesn’t exist anymore. Sniff. Perhaps I can get it up again.)
And you thought the LotR raves were over?
StandardSix minutes of heaven
Squee! Fangirl moment. Click above for the link to a six-minute preview of the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King special extended edition 🙂 Ahh, that makes me happy, even if I’m going to attempt to stay away from it until I’m done with orgo. The final, anyway. Still haven’t signed up for next semester. Not like the class is going to be full or anything. Course, now that I’ve said that, watch it be the only evening class that fills up. Sigh.
Did get Spidey 2 and Hero (couldn’t resist) last night, and the National Treasure and The Matrix (yes, I know, behind on the times, it was on sale) soundtracks. Bad Jen.
So…who wants what for christmas? I basically should just ask for money this year because no one is going to buy me an mp3 player, a keyboard or a new laptop. That’s just the way life is. And one of these days I WILL make enough money to get them for myself. Greedy little minx, aren’t I? I have no clue what to get my parents. Thank goodness I don’t have brothers or sisters, so I don’t have to figure out something for them too. I’m so bad. Ah well.
I’m just rambling, really. I should be doing orgo. Guess I’ll go do that.
PS: pray for my mom. She’s in the hospital for her blood pressure. Not cool.
give me a nickel, I’m done
StandardOh baby. I finished NaNo! And though the 50 K in 30 days is over, I’m not done with the story. Nearly there, really, just the big climax to write still 😉
Word Count | 50139 / 50000 words |
In case you’re wondering, the nickel bit in the title is in reference to Lell’s lovely encouragement and motivation of offering a nickel to write a heckuva lot of words one night when I was truly behind. Thanks Lell. You’ve been such a dear!
I will try to post more about it when I get myself sorted out. For now, I think I’m going to try that little thing called going to bed before 2 am.
But here’s a taste:
In Pursuit of the Purple Bar
StandardNational Novel Writing Month – National Novel Writing Month
The elusive green purple bar. The green purple bar of ‘winning.’ I’m so close to ‘finishing’ NaNo…only about 2000 words left. We’ll see if I make those tonight, what with actually *working* at work and the Spidey 2 dvd coming out tonight…must also remember to pick up the National Treasure soundtrack, because it was fun. And maybe Hero, though I should probably wait until I see it to buy it. Ah well.
And just in case you were curious…I have been around. Just figured that if I was writing, I ought to be writing NaNo, not posting. I’m sure you’ll see much more of me than you like soon enough. Silly Orgo. Test in a week! Eek!
Dear Lord, will you look at that
StandardIt’s snowing. Snowing! In St. Louis! In November! Egad! Yesterday it was 50 deg outside and now it’s snowing. I’d just like to point out how I absolutely love snow but detest driving it in. And I’ll have to do that later.
Although, it is the large, wet variety, so it might stop soon. I love how it blew up Highway 44, just in time for us to travel down that way for Thanksgiving. Thank the Lord I don’t have to travel today.
So I’ve got over 32,000 words…but I kinda doubt that I’ll make it to 50K by the end of Nov. Esp. since I haven’t done enough orgo homework. Ugh. Should do that. And am little annoyed because it looks like they turned off ActiveX controls on the network at work so I can’t play any online games. Alas. I guess I’ll actually have to do work. Though how anyone is getting any work done today is beyond me. Thank goodness we officially get Friday off.
Excel can be really frustrating. And taxes really, truly suck. Now onto your regularly-scheduled snow viewing.
way too tired for this
StandardIt’s never too late to be what you might have been. –George Eliot.
If I ever finish, here’s a place to send my novel. Whee! I’m really lazy and don’t want to write about the 3000 word day I had last thursday and the rather disappointing days after that. Still very far behind in Nano. Hopefully can remedy that this week.
sometimes it’s funny what you find out
StandardI’ve realized that I really enjoy looking things up for writing my story, almost more than writing. This is, at this moment, probably because I don’t want to have to do a bit of expository backstory which is a pain in the butt to write and frankly, quite boring. But I think I’ve got more of a plot now. Which is good, because I’m still very much behind…like 11,000 words behind. Which is why I should be writing right now instead of posting. Ah well. You know me, the queen of procrastination.
But I did want to share one funny thing I’ve found on my researching…Duncan McLeod, the main character in the Highlander the Series tv show, is a fine upstanding (immortal) scotsman, right? While researching an appropriately menacing Welsh, Scottish, or English first name starting with M I found out what Duncan’s name means. I got a laugh out of it. Doesn’t mean you will. Perhaps I’ve just been staring at the screen too long.
DUNCAN, DONNCHADH, DONNACHADH: brown warrior
MACLEOD, MACCLOUD: son of the ugly man
(from 20000 names.)
Rocks
StandardRemember how I told you that I was really enjoying Ben Jelen? Yeah. Rocks is a beautiful song. I’m really going to have to get this album someday. Lyrics follow 🙂
Deidre, please, let’s go…Alta Meadow Ranch (check out the rainbow), or Zephyr Adventures. But we have to find a place that lets us get our gallop on! haha. Of course, there’s always the Grand Canyon. (Want to know what it looks like there?)
I need a vacation.
