Two weeks notice

Standard

Or actually, 13 days. I was going to mention the fact that the movie I’ve been waiting all year for is coming out in two weeks yesterday, but what with learning the ropes in the glucose transport lab I’ve not been able to goof off as much at work wink Got to talking about LotR with the guys in the lab and I of course showed off my geekiness in knowing exactly when the movie comes out and that I’ve already got my ticket for the midnight premiere…ah well.
Did I mention how I don’t have a dvd player in my laptop? This is probably a good thing in the long run as it cuts down on procrastination. I still want a comp with a dvd drive though. But it wouldn’t help me all that much anyway as even if I got a new one as it would only be good for watching a movie, say PotC, which has lots of enhanced PC dvd features. Meh. This is where I, defeated, admit I would like a PC for some reasons. Sigh. Silly people. Don’t they realize that Mac-lovers are movie-watchers too?
Anyway, it’s late, so I’m off to bed. Two weeks! I can’t believe it. Must run dhea. Don’t ask.

thank y’ f’r noticin’ me

1. Those paper toilet seat covers in public bathrooms, do you use them? Occasionally. Though I only see them in malls nowadays.

2. What is on your Christmas Wish List for Santa to bring? A keyboard so I can pretend like I’m good at piano. A new laptop (with dvd player). Other things which you can check out at my wishlist at amazon. Beware some dating…it has been a while since I put anything on there. But believe me…I want what’s there!

3. In the month of November, Brian wrote over 50,000 words on his novel and is nearing completion. What did you accomplish in the month of November? Shoot. Wish I had done that. I completed 6 months at this lab…does that count? I read a heck of a lot of books.

4. Have you ever snuck into someplace that you shouldn’t have? Tell me about that. um. Not really…because I can never figure out how to do it.

5. Do you recall the first internet meme you participated in? How did you come to find out about it? Do you still participate? Why or why not? I think the first meme was this one…or possibly the friday five. I wonder what happened to the This or That Tuesday. I guess the way I found out about all of them was from links in other blogs…or links in the comment section of the respective memes…

6. Do you have any favorite internet or “streaming” radio programs or music channels you wish were available in your car or on a portable radio? Not really. I’ve never had wonderful experiences with streaming music. Although I do wish there was an actual contemporary christian radio station on the air in this area…you can only hear christian music sunday nights, late. Which is fine, but I always seem to like what they play, so it would be nice to hear that more often.

7. Ever been skinny dipping? What’s the story there? Hah. no.

BONUS: What’s cooler than being cool? Being right?

That’s sad

From tvguide.com – [TV Guide]
This is sort of random, but if you read this article you’ll find that actor Jonathan Brandis killed himself a few days ago. You might remember him from Seaquest DSV…and the Neverending Story 2 wink He was one of my first crushes, and I liked his show as well. Probably because he played a brainiac. He was only 27. Hadn’t heard much from him in recent years, so I wonder if that’s why…but it’s sad to find out someone you really liked didn’t like life enough to continue…hmm.
In the good news category, tickets for the midnight premiere of RotK are on sale today, so I’ll see if I can make it by the box office…or someone can…hint, hint wink

Disclaimer: Normally I don’t like slash (aka boy-boy love) fics, but the artist who designed this quiz does wonderful manipulations using LotR characters, so if this bothers you, obviously don’t click. But I’m just admiring in the artisitic sense…whee creativity!

1. It is a lovely 21 degrees here in Oklahoma, and since walking in from the parking lot, I can’t seem to warm up. I’ve got the coffee to my right and the space heater to the left and the non-functional central heat blowing above me. What do you do to get warm when you are very cold? Cuddle up with a blanket, or if I’m at work, grab another sweatshirt. I’m almost always prepared for cold, since I almost always seem to *be* cold.

2. What is the first thing you do in the morning after you get up? Grumble about it, hit the snooze alarm. Or if I’m being responsible, use the restroom, turn on the news, and get dressed. Didn’t you want to know that?

3. I mentioned earlier in the week that Sub Hunt was one of the first arcade games I ever remember playing. Many years later I would become equally entranced by the Atatri 2600 (ugh, I am showing my age now, aren’t I?). Do you remember the very first video game you ever played (arcade, handheld, console, etc.)? What do you remember about that experience? I’m guessing that the first game I played was Asteroids in an arcade format, I think one of my friends had a game in their basement…either that or my cousin’s orange and grey Nintendo with Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt. I was good at Duck Hunt.

4. Do you have a good memory or do you find that you need to write things down to remember them? I have a good memory once things have gotten into it…but I usually have to write things down to make sure that I’ve got everything taken care of.

5. I am currently really getting a kick out of the Citibank Citicard commercials about Identity theft, to the point of quoting them out loud (which no one gets, I really need new some geeky-er friends). What are some of your all-time favorite television commercials? Er. Commercials for movies I like? The Budweiser “Great Men of Genius” radio commercials are a favorite…M&Ms commercials, I guess…Commercials with good music always catch my eye (and my ear)…usually car commercials.

6. Since Thanksgiving is this week, I felt like I just had to throw in the obligatory food question, so here goes. Do you have a favorite Thanksgiving food that is made by one person, and no one makes it better? If not, then what is your favorite food to eat at Thanksgiving? (Those who don’t celebrate Thanksgiving feel free to insert your favorite fall food) Well, my grandmother and my mother both make chicken&dumplings with the same recipie but they don’t taste the same. Not that one is better than the other, just different. But I can’t make it like either of them can. And this isn’t really fall food, but no one can make egg rolls like my dad. And favorite food for thanksgiving is probably my grandma’s stuffing and real gravy. Whee tryptophan!

7. Wireless telephone companies will now let you move your cell number to another carrier, or move your land line number to your cell. Not only is this incredibly convenient, it forces cell phone companies to be more competitive. Are you planning to switch cell phone companies as a result of this new law, or possibly pit two companies against each other for a better deal? You mean on my non-existant cell phone? There are definitely times when I wish I had one, but it seems more trouble than it’s worth.

BONUS: Where? On a farm. In a day!

Happy Birthday, Mom

Standard

Well, my mom is officially 50. I wish I could have gotten on yesterday and posted, but y’all knew already, right? I spent yesterday with her. Whee! It’s good when your parents love you. She seemed happy with my gifts, which makes me happy, and we had some wonderful food, including this really good chocolate mousse cake with funky ruffled chocolate on top. Mmm. So,

Happy 50th, Mom!

a little late.
It’s my MyPoints anniversary today…I like this thing because you literally check your email and they give you points. You never have to buy a thing. Of course, it takes a lot longer to save for anything, but I’m waiting for my $50 gift certificate…check it out, and if you decide to sign up, tell ’em JLSHEW sent ya. wink
The Haunted Mansion and Timeline come out today, both of which I want to see and neither of which I’m likely to see until after thanksgiving. Ah well. I have so much to do tonight…clean the bathroom, take out the trash, dishes, pack for the trip…sigh. When am I gonna watch my shows? lol. Yes, I know I’m obsessed. Although not quite as obsessed as I am about LotR. The official soundtrack site was finally updated so I bought my Internet-only special edition…I can’t wait! I’ve heard clips and it sounds wonderful.
Got the Matrix Revolutions soundtrack and Sarah McLachlan’s new cd…I’ll let you know if I like them.
I can’t wait for Pirates on dvd! I’ll have to find out how much it’s selling for…I’d like to have it on ‘the day’ if possible wink If you find good prices let me know!
Yay for holiday breaks. I’m so happy. Whee turkey!
