At a recent software engineering management course in the US, the participants were given an awkward question to answer. “If you had just boarded an airliner and discovered that your team of programmers had been responsible for the flight control software how many of you would disembark immediately?”

Among the ensuing forest of raised hands, only one man sat motionless. When asked what he would do, he replied that he would be quite content to stay onboard.

With his team’s software, he said, the plane was unlikely to even taxi as far as the runway, let alone take off.

So yesterday this comp wasn’t connecting. And it wasn’t connecting this morning. But then Phillip reset the router (?) and it works. Thank God for techie men.
No comments on Chapter four? It’s not that long… please let me know what you think. Ivana thinks I should have more descriptive passages. And I know I need to go back over some of the old stuff. I’m always looking for fb.

This or That

1. Art or science museum? Science museum.

2. Play or watch sports? Playing.

3. Zoo or circus? Zoo.

4. Theater: film or live on stage? Live. But since I can’t get to the theater very often, film is good.

5. Rock concert or the symphony? Concert.

6. Movies: see them in a theater or wait for DVD/VHS? Usually wait for cable, unless it’s Lord of the Rings 🙂

7. Board games or computer/video games? “Board games” like Cranium are so much more fun than computer games. But I’ve never really bought either, I just play what’s given to me 🙂 And I’m no good at shooting things up so me and computer games don’t really mix.

8. Hobbies: crafts (art, cooking, home repair, etc) or collecting (coins, stamps, rocks, etc)? Hobbies. No room for collecting, unless it’s something Legolas 🙂

9. Watch TV or read a book? Books, of course.

10. Eating out: fancy, white-tablecloth restaurant or casual dining? Casual dining. Seems silly to dress up for just your family dinner.

Did you hear? Chapter Four of The Moonstone Chronicles is finished. Please read it and tell me what you think. Any suggestions cheerfully accepted (as long as they’re things I like, of course.) j/k 🙂

PromoGuy’s Monday Mission 2.44

1. Have you ever had to appear in court? What was the reason? How did it turn out? Nope. Haven’t even gotten a speeding ticket *knock on wood*

2. Ever been accused of something you never did? Were you able to convince anyone? cheating, sort of, once. and yes, I suppose I did, since I didn’t get in trouble. It’s an odd situation.

3. When it comes to crime and punishment, do you agree with the saying “An eye for an eye?” not really. It’s rather gross, don’t you think? But there are times when I do think the death penalty is appropriate…

4. Are you a judgemental person? Do you ever make up your mind about a person before you know them? When was the last time that happened? Or if not, how do you keep from being judgemental? yes, sadly, I am. Cause I can make up my mind pretty quick if I see a person and I don’t think they’re attractive. Egad, but I’m shallow.

5. When I was in 6th grade I lit a match in class accidentally and was given the choice of having my folks called or getting 10 “swats.” I took swats and damn, that wooden paddle with the holes drilled in it hurt like hell (not to mention the horible whistling sound it made before impact). I don’t think they allow “swats” anymore. Ever get “swats” at school? How do you feel about children being spanked in school. Is it best that they don’t do that anymore? How about parents spanking kids? Good or bad? Never got em, but also never got in trouble bad enought to justify it. Thank God. I don’t think they should do it any more; if you’re determined to screw up, hitting you isn’t going to make it any better.

6. What is your favorite “Chick Flick?” Off the top of my head, Steel Magnolias or Pretty Woman. And no, it’s not because of Julia Roberts.

7. Describe the last situation you were in that can best be summed up by the phrase “seemed like a good idea at the time?” umm. Biomedical engineering? Kidding. Sort of.

BONUS: Who will bury us when we die? Our friends, hopefully.

Chapter Four is finished!

Yes, yes, I know. It’s been waaay too long, but chapter four of The Moonstone Chronicles is finished. I hope you like it. For those of you who’ve been reading it, there’s not too much more to it, only about a thousand words, but it’s done. In the real world you’d read the excerpt from Faldor next, but I have to figure out how to put that in first.
Read it here.
And if you want to read about Faldor the elf: here. Keep in mind this is not finished.
and last but not least, if you want to get a cryptic taste of what’s to come, read the Prophesy of the Blind Seeress.
For some reason my other comp isn’t connecting to the internet right now sad so I’m doing this from my laptop. Ahh, the memories of college smile I need something to do. I feel like a lug just sitting here at work. Pah. At least I finished the chapter smile

Are you really out there?

Did y’all see the comment from Sean Garrett on the post for ‘Decadence’? A little bit spooky, if you ask me. Unless one of you was playing a joke on me…come out come out wherever you are. I hope by now you’ve noticed that the story is not finished. I’m sorry to say that you’re insane in the story, and me thinking of that name has nothing to do with you smile lol. I feel like I just wrote a disclaimer. ‘All coincidence with any persons, living or dead, is entirely unintended.’ Are you still interested?

movin’ on up…again

Thanks to you guys, I moved up from Gondor to Lothlorien in the WQ this week…

Be sure to keep voting!

We rented Spider-man last night. I’ve seen it twice since then smile We’re supposed to watch it one more time so we can have popcorn during it, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen, cause we had a big dinner…Braveheart was on, and so was the second half of Gladiator, with some new footage cut in a la LotR:FotR. So I don’t think we’ll get to it. Thank gosh Blockbuster gives you till noon to return it now.
I got boots for my Legolas costume today. They might be a little small, but leather is supposed to stretch, and the next half size up was too big. Go fig. I’m trying to draw the buckles and closures so my grandpa can make them for me smile
It took me three weeks to finish the ten books of the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series. Yup, I’m done. That’s 3.3 books per week or .37 books per day smile Tres tres bon. Read them.
I remember why I hate watching television in November. Or at least before election day. ‘This candidate did that. Didn’t do that.’ only to have the opponent totally refute the other ad and basically just piss me off. I’m very happy I know I’m a Democrat and my choice is sort of made for me already. It just bugs me that you can’t ever really know what’s true unless you actually got out there and found the ‘records’ that they’re backing the statements up with. I’m so glad we have the privilege of voting, but I hate politics. I would never willingly chose to be a politician. It’s why I would lose in Survivor. Sure, I’d survive, I could do the physical stunts and maybe even some of the mind game ones, but I could never be savvy enough to ally myself with anyone in hopes of winning. What do you think?
