StandardRings Thing
StandardWith Viggo Mortensen’s recent announcement that he will no longer be accepting fan mail after October 31, 2002, the question arises: How important is an actor’s contact with fans to the (long-term) success of his/her movies? To his/her career? And, more specifically, how important is the contact the Fellowship actors have with their fans to the success of the Lord of the Rings movies?
Considering I’ve never written to a celebrity (however much I’d like to write to Orlando and get something personal back) it doesn’t matter to me how much they come into contact. I seriously doubt that I’d ever meet Viggo or Orlando or anyone, for that matter, considering St. Louis isn’t exactly the hotbed of actor activity, I think as long as they get out there and say hi occasionally, it’s alright. I’m the type of person who can ignore things that I don’t like about a person, like how Orli smokes and is a vegetarian. We would never get along
I don’t care if I never meet any of the fellowship; I mean, it would be a glorious thing, but it’s not going to make me not see the movies if I can’t see the actors. I’m not quite that obsessed.
PromoGuy’s Monday Mission 2.42
1. Have you ever felt like you were expected to set a good example for others? Yes, but I don’t think I did a very good job. It was more when I was younger and actually taking care of little kids. Unless you count when I was sort of captain of the track team and had to be all senior-cool and knowledgeable.
2. What keeps you on the right path? For example, why do you think you turned out the way you did as opposed to the nut ball sniper out there? My parents, definitely. That and I do believe God is looking down on you. And besides, if you weren’t good, people would think you’re crazy, and who would want that?
3. Sometimes things seem different than they really are. When was the last time you believed something to be one way only to learn you had it all wrong? When I got to college and realized that I knew absolutely nothing.
4. Can you recall a time when being alert and observant kept you safe? Umm. Probably, but I don’t know when it was.
5. Who in your personal circle of relationships do you think is smarter than you? Are they smarter in just one area, or overall? How do you feel about that? How do they interact with you? Damn, most of my friends are smarter than me. Heck, I went to Wash U, where just about everyone was valedictorian. It makes me feel inferior quite a bit, but at least I had people to help me with my homework…
6. Let’s daydream a little: Describe in detail the most perfect lazy day, start to finish. I wake up whenever I feel like it, then spend the day reading a really good book, and finishing it. I’ll get on the internet sometime, and chat with friends till late in the evening/morning. I might even play some guitar.
7. Are you dressing up for Halloween? If so, what as? If not, how come? What is the most favorite costume you ever had? I’d like to, I think I’ll be Sydney Bristow from Alias. All I need is a red wig 🙂 It sure would be cool if I could finish my Legolas costume in a week, but I don’t think that’s going to happen, considering I haven’t even cut the pattern for the shirt…maybe Sydney needs a medival cloak, lol.
BONUS: Come on baby tell me what’s the word? Decadence.
Happy (slightly late) birthday to Viggo! Ah, rugged manly King of Men…but elves are cuter, lol…
can’t win ’em all
StandardOk, so I got eliminated from the Apprentice’s Challenge at WQ and am back at Hobbiton, so go vote and get me back up there! Thanks ![]()
Watched FotR for the I-don’t-have-the-slightest-clue-what-time, and was again reminded just how damn hot that elf is. Sigh. I want to be in a movie just for the pointy ears. If Cate Blanchett said that, then so can I.
Call it dividing energies, but now I can be totally happy. I’ve got a modern-day vamp/werewolf story and a fantastic medieval magic story with elves and I don’t have to figure out how to combine the two. You know what’s funny, sometimes I almost feel like the story is already written in my head, it’s just the getting it onto paper (or in pixels as the case may be) is the difficult part. I feel like I have to carry around a tape recorder all the time so I can record those random bits of insight that make the story come together. Course, then I’d look insane, talking to myself all the time…like anyone cares! I wonder though, if I can be ‘dark’ enough to do justice to Decadence. I think I have read enough to know, but it’s like writing romance. Sure I had my share of heady stuff, but a) it was a long time ago and b) I am considerably older and better-read than I was then, so my experiences with romance are probably a little out of whack. And I’m not a dark person, so it will be interesting to see what I can dredge out of my subconscious…glad y’all like it, anyway.
Two months to the Two Towers
StandardI know, I know, technically this was yesterday, I’m just running late today. TTT december 18! And the extended version dvd comes out in little under a month! I think I might hold off on pre-ordering it and just go to best buy and see if I can get those free tickets. I’d still see it midnight even if I did get free tix. I really need to buy something through the fan club though. I would totally buy the SE version if it were less expensive than amazon, but it’s not. Sometimes retail is good. Although I didn’t spend $100 just so I could get a card and a magazine…but I can’t wait to see my name at the end of the credits! Hopefully some people in the lab will want to go. Would you believe that the other girl in the lab hasn’t seen FotR yet? She’s gonna borrow my vhs sometime, lol. See, I knew we should get both! Cause we still haven’t gotten another dvd player. Someday, grasshopper.
btw, Decadence will live here: decadence in case you’re curious to see the progress I’ve made. I know it’s a bad idea to start something new and I’ll probably never get around to finishing it, and if I finish them both before I’m eighty I will consider it an amazing accomplishment. Bug me and I might get to them before my student loans are paid off. Maybe they’ll help me pay off my student loans. Wouldn’t that be a kick? I could be another one of those yuppies who makes a living having nothing to do with that lovely piece of paper called a college diploma.
Friday Five (.org) yes I realize it is now Saturday and I’m very late. Sue me.
1. How many TVs do you have in your home? three that are ever watched, four if you count the one in the basement only used for dubbing; five if you count the one in the art room that only gets three channels.
2. On average, how much TV do you watch in a week? More than I used to. There’s at least an hour every night that I like to watch.
3. Do you feel that television is bad for young children? Probably. But then I don’t have kids. Yet.
4. What TV shows do you absolutely HAVE to watch, and if you miss them, you’re heartbroken? Buffy, Alias, Smallville, CSI & CSI: Miami, ER, and once, long ago, Roswell.
5. If you had the power to create your own television network, what would your line-up look like? A little bit of the WB with the drama of NBC.![]()

Decadence-a new story
StandardArtemis.
Goddess of hunters.
Artemis is often represented with the Bow and Quiver of the huntress and with emblems representing the Moon and the Stars. She is often seen in the company of a Hind or a Dog.
Did you know there is a war in your very city, at this very moment? A war so vicious that if it were not secret by necessity, every human would be caught in the crossfire. The secrecy keeps us from all-out confrontation, but you may have seen glimpses of it; that shoot-out at the club, the bodies unearthed in the remote areas of the state. We keep it from you, for as a rule you humans, as a group, seem unable to cope with the existence of the supernatural.
Shall I introduce myself then? I am Artemis, alpha of my pack. Youve probably met my kind and not known it. We are very good at blending in with humans, just as we are good at being unnoticeable when hunting our prey. Of course, we dont hunt very often anymore. Its difficult to find the time with this war.
Not all of my kind are involved in it. Id rather not be, to tell the truth. But as alpha I am forced to take a stand. Ive never really had anything against the vampires; theyve never harmed anyone in my pack. Politically speaking, though, I must campaign against them. Being without a mate as I am, I cannot pick my battlesyet. I cannot stand alone in my desire to end this war, so I must accede to the greater wishes of the loupcour, the governing body of werewolves.
Werewolves, you say. No such thing. Since you cannot see me shift at this moment, you will have to believe me. Shake your head as you wish, but I could tell you it is what you could become. I was once as human as you. Shifting is a disease, a mutation passed on in violent contact with a shapechanger. Some people have natural immunity to it; others choose to let the virus take hold. Others, like me, were forced into itbut the one who did this to me would not be pleased to see the place he put me in: leader of his pack.
I was given the name Artemis by my people when I ascended to the alpha position. Who I was before is not really important; I had my share of human glory and pain a lifetime ago. No one noted me then, no one but him. Sean Garrett made me what I am today, and I give you his name because it now means nothing but leaves on the wind.
But you want to know who I am. Here then, is my story
