Friday Five (.org)
1. Do you have a car? If so, what kind of car is it? I don’t have a car. I use my parents’ Saturn or Toyota wagon. I want a car *sniff*
2. Do you drive very often? Not too much. I carpool with my dad to work, so the only times I really drive are on weekends.
3. What’s your dream car? A Chrystler Sebring convertible, green with either a tan or black top. Haven’t decided yet.
4. Have you ever received a ticket? Not yet… I almost got one for running a red, but I guess the guy saw I didn’t have any priors so he didn’t.
5. Have you ever been in an accident? I was in a small accident when I was relatively young, but it could have been worse. We think it was an insurance scam cause the woman driving the car said she had whiplash, but she’d been weaving toward our car for a while. And if my mom hadn’t been watching her, she would have slammed into the left backseat–where I was sitting. As it was, she permanently screwed up our bumper. But all’s well. Remind me to tell you about the blind guy who totalled the car I was supposed to get. I have to eat lunch now.![]()

Year: 2002
God, but I’m lonely.
Standardtoday was…odd.
Work wasn’t horrible, I did two mini-preps and listened to Josh Groban (and tried to avoid singing out loud) and Lord of the Rings. We had pizza at journal club (God I will hate it when I have to actually do that) cause it’s SueMin’s last week and my last month, and I didn’t burn myself with phenol. I even did a search for elf ears (see the other blog for that one). So work wasn’t the problem.
And I have all this LotR stuff, and I’m about to make a Legolas outfit. I hope. So that shouldn’t be getting me down.
I was going to stop by Johnnie Brock’s Dungeon (a costume rental place) to see about their selection of prosthetic ears and blond wigs, but Dad was driving, so no dice. But that wasn’t a *big* deal, I can go later. I’m gonna try to go there, Music Folk to get my guitar repaired, and the fabric store to start getting fabric for my costume. Should I be especially ambitious and make an elven dress as well as a Lego outfit?
Oh, and get my mom to Best Buy so I can get a dvd player. I really want to see LotR on dvd! I will probably watch it with Sarah first though.
But when I got home after work, all I wanted to do was curl up with a fantasy and read. It almost got me to the point where I wanted to write some of mine (and I really need to) but I just couldn’t get the oomph. We went out to eat for dinner, and I just had to bring the book along, even though I rarely do that anymore. I just felt sad and lonely and generally melancholic, as Meg so aptly put it. I don’t know why. It was just one of those nights when you really miss having friends. Offline ones, anyway.
And does anyone else get those random, I-wanna-be-a-rock-star moments? This particular moment of insanity brought on by, what else, the movie Rock Star, premiering on cable this weekend. Would that I was independently wealthy so I could be such and write when I wanted to and have DSL.
But it doesn’t get you friends. sigh.
God, but I’m lonely tonight.

Ring Thing
StandardIn honor of people moving this week’s topic is about weblogs. (Next week will be about the DVD
again, of course.) How long have you had a weblog? Do you have more than one? If so, how do you divide what you write in them? How did you decide which program or service to use, and are you happy with it? Bonus question for those who care to share: What’s your philosophy of blogging? Every thought that crosses your mind? Only very selected items? Somewhere in between?
I’ve had this blog/site/collection of ramblings since April 24, 2002, incidentally my parents’ 26th anniversary. My other blog, Aspire II is really the original Aspire, as it was started back in Nov of 2001, just when classes were starting to get hectic, Thanksgiving and the annual trip down south to Richland to visit the grandparents were right around the corner, and I was really starting to get excited for Lord of the Rings. Aspire II uses Blogger, because it’s free and I’m lazy. This one uses Greymatter, which I’m very happy with. Both have their idiosyncrasies, but then again, so do I. I try to write regularly… my record for this blog was last week, I think, when I blogged almost the entire week in a row. Then I went to the John Mayer concert and didn’t get back until the next day, lol. I have no idea what my record is on AII.
I write whatever I want to. I try to put in interesting things, links that have caught my eye, but basically it’s my place to express myself, and typing is a helluva lot quicker than writing it all out (although I’d like to have a use for the lovely LotR journal that Alex gave me…) Besides, all you fine people get to discover far too much information about me that you’d ever want.
See what I mean? Ramblings.
I’m a LotR freak, man
StandardEven as I’m contemplating changing my Legolas layout for a really John Mayer one, I am getting inundated with LotR Stuff. Not that that’s a bad thing. I got the FotR dvd and the Art of LotR:FotR today, and my dad brought back home the LotR:FotR publicity cd. And I went to JoAnn Fabrics and bought some patterns to make a Legolas outfit for next year’s Comincon. And maybe a renaissance faire or two. Although my mom thinks I should make a dress like Galadriel’s instead. I’m for the comfort of leggings. Any thoughts?
So I have a year to make the costume(s?) and learn how to play guitar. Oh, and learn tagalong.
but, I am one step closer to getting a dvd player. This weekend is Preferred Customer weekend at Best Buy, so hopefully I’ll be getting one… *crosses fingers* I can’t wait to see the dvd!
I’m insane, I know.
Where do you find all these wonderful quizzes? Sorry I haven’t been able to post here. Been preoccupied with your other blog and the blogs of five other people. *lol* Internet is slow too so I’m equally bummed. What is the use of coming to work when the darn DSL isn’t working? 😉
Talk to you later hon.
Tuesday’s on time…
This-or-That: August 6, 2002
All about clothes!
1. What’s your personal clothing style…trendy or classic?
classic. casual. comfortable. I have to be able to run in it.
2. Do you shop for designer names or stick with the more generic brands?
generic, of course. it’s cheaper.
3. Work clothes: dressy or casual?
Casual, thank God. I can’t stand suits.
4. Days off style: dressy or casual?
gee, ya think… Casual!
5. Women: high heels or flats? Men: Wing-tips or work boots?
low heels. But preferably running shoes.
6. Do you have a large wardrobe, or just a few carefully selected pieces?
Many tshirts. everything else is pretty much selected.
7. Do you shop for clothing at stores or from catalogs/internet?
not really. I like to try things on when I buy them.
8. Are most of your clothes dry-clean only or machine-washable?
Rarely dry-clean, because who has a) time or b) money to get clothes to the cleaners?
9. You buy an article of clothing and realize it is all wrong for you when you get home. Return or keep it?
try it on again to make sure, then return it. Money back is always good.
10. Hats: yes or no?
yes, but I don’t usually wear them.
And monday is late…
PromoGuy’s Monday Mission 2.31
1. Ever considered just deleting your Blog and not doing it anymore? What
prompted that and what stopped you?
Considered it, esp. since I have greymatter at the other one, but there’s just so much fun stuff here. Yeah. (translation: too lazy)
2. How about a quick review of the last movie you saw?
Hmm. Officially in a theater? MIIB. Funny, silly, a pretty good sequel, I laughed. If you liked the first one, you’d probably like this one too. Next movie I’ll see is Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Yes, I know I’m obsessed. You should be too. Wet elf!
3. What’s your favorite gadget? Are you lusting for any new ones? Will you ever
be satisified???
I need a dvd player. But my gadget is my laptop. Course, won’t be happy until I have the latest edition.
4. Saturday night I played “UNO” for the first time in years, I mean it
has been over 10 years since I played it. It was great fun, but it really made
me want to learn how to play Backgammon again. What “table game” do you enjoy
playing most with other people? Have you played it lately?
I guess Balderdash. We try to play it during the New Years Eve party. Can be quite hilarious… obviously have not played it since New Years, though.
5. About a year ago I was obsessed with loosing weight, and I dropped
pretty low before I got a handle on things (I’ve actually gained about 8 pounds
of it back, and it is still a struggle sometimes to not try to loose it).
Thankfully, I like fattening sweets and buttery popcorn too much to live like
that for too long. Have you ever been obsessed with something so much that it
was close to causing you physical or mental harm? If not, have you known anyone
else who has?
I don’t think so, unless you count training for conference or getting massive headaches attempting to be studious in college…
6. Did you grow up in a family or community that displayed racist or
prejudice attitudes? Did it influence you in any way, either toward or
away from those views? How did you manage to avoid it, or did you?
I didn’t grow up in that diverse of a community, but I was taught that diversity is good. I always felt bad though when I got uncomfortable around the deseg kids. I like to think I’m not prejudiced (hey, I know the value of a good track runner, and most of them seem to be black…) but sometimes it catches me, the whoa, they’re different vibe. I hate it. I wish I didn’t do that.
7. Good grief, I am starving! You got anything to eat around here?
Yogurt… but it’s my afternoon snack. You can’t have it.
oh, and btw… in 21 days I will cease to be 21. Kind of like how yesterday it was 22 days till I’d be 22… no, I’m not too subtle sometimes…
I know I’m obsessed. I know I could have just rented the VHS tomorrow and taped it. But I wanted the real thing. So I went to Best Buy and waited in line and bought it. Got a very nice tshirt and the FotR one-sheet movie poster. A pretty good night, all in all 🙂
Yet another tally in the completely obsessed category
StandardI went to Best Buy and bought the VHS of LotR:FotR. Stood in line for a little over an hour, but I got a really cool tshirt and the FotR one-sheet movie poster. So I’m happy, and I know what I’m watching tomorrow night ![]()
Now all I need is a Legolas stand-up and I’ll be set, lol. I am seriously entertaining the thought of trying to make a Legolas costume for Halloween. Not that I’d be going to any parties or anything, but at least I’d have a reason to wear the ears.
I really want to learn how to play guitar. And I miss the piano.
