\In unrelated news, FanForum is back! Yay!
So I moved my mattresses over to the apartment. I slept there last night…it was odd, having my bed but not being home…and I felt really weird not being able to get online. You know, I had the computer, but not the internet access…that and not being able to watch cable on my little black and white tv
I’m thinking I might get a tv/vcr combo for the room, I don’t know. I guess I’ll have to go grocery shopping first before I think about electronics. And that might be interesting as the main grocery store chains in Missouri are going on strike today. Sheesh.

1. If you were to go on a diet (not that you should, babe, you look marvelous), which of the “fad diets” sounds the most appealing to you? Eh. Definitely not the Atkins diet. I love pasta too much. I think I would go the tried and true method of working out. Appalling concept sometimes, but now that I’m near the park, I’ll just have to make use of the bike path…
2. I only ask, because with the holidays coming up, there will be a lot more food in our house than usual. It tempts me. Maybe if I exercise I can loose some now, and eat then and have it all balance out. Do you get much exercise? Hah. No. But I swear I am going to start. There’s an Aikido place down the street…yoga too, maybe I can get my lazy butt over there.
3. When I was walking the other night, I noticed a rent house was being cleaned out by the landlord. Apparently the owners just took the essentials and left a lot of junk in the house. The owner had stacked piles of junk on the lawn for the sanitation collectors. But I noticed several things in that mess that maybe I could use (like a gas powered hedge trimmer). I may still go back some dark evening. Have you ever raided someone’s junk pile that was left out for the garbage truck? Or gone dumpster diving? What did you find? Umm. Trash pile yes, but never for anything very big. No dumpster diving unless I mistakenly threw something away.
4. Also in that same dumpster was the most awful shade of bright green carpet you’ve ever seen. Seriously, you wouldn’t believe it if I showed you (and I will try to get a photo). Do you have any memories of ugly carpeting in your home or someone else’s? Well, we’ve got a really bad brown/tan/orange shag rug down in our basement…guess why it’s in the basement?
5. As summer draws to a close, it means fewer outside chores. One I won’t miss at all is mowing the lawn! What summertime chores will you be glad to see go away for the winter months? Er. I don’t really do outside chores.
6. Of course, it is hard to mention fall without at least touching on football. Do you have a(ny) favorite football team(s)? Do you and your family root for the same teams to win? The only reason I have a favorite football team is because there is one in my city. Go Rams! Eh. I’m not a football fan though. It just seems silly to me to have grown men running around after a little leather ball and beating each other up.
7. I will be heading to Anaheim next month to stay a few days for a convention. It would be great to meet up with some Bloggers, but I just don’t know many out there. If you were to visit California, are there any Bloggers you’d like to meet up with? (And if you are in California, then who would you like to come see you!) I’m sure there are….but I don’t know where alot of my fellow bloggers are from, therefore it might be a little difficult to elucidate that…
BONUS: Where can you begin to make your dreams all come true on the land or on the sea? Hmmm. The internet?
1. What vehicle do you drive? A teal 93 Saturn SL1.
2. How long have you had it? Me personally, only a couple of months. The family in general…for about seven years.
3. What is the coolest feature on your vehicle? It functions.
4. What is the most annoying thing about your vehicle? The brakes squeal (this is recent) and the (not-factory-installed) sunroof leaks…sometimes (this has been since we got the car, used).
5. If money were no object, what vehicle would you be driving right now? A Chrystler Sebring convertible, green with tan top.

It’s official: I am a Hopeless Romantic. Of course, if you read any of this journal while I was crushing on people in college you’d know that already.
I can’t wait to light the candles in the apartment. Yay for good smells!
More excitement than I needed today
StandardI was helping Eduardo swim the rats today and while taking one out of the swimming tanks, it bit me…twice. Rats! I’m ok, the rats aren’t testing diseases or anything. Just washed it out and had it checked out by the employee health service…don’t get me wrong, it’s not pretty. But I’m gonna be fine. They gave me a tetanus shot just to be sure…I know I was up to date for college, but I can’t tell you how up to date I was at the time. The booster will probably hurt more than the bite will tomorrow. Bleah. Ah well. I guess we’ll check the weights on the tails before we take them out next time! Sigh.
We should have gas in the apartment and the new phone line is in…it’s a very easy to remember number with lots of 7s in it
Though Alex has more. How exciting! Maybe I’ll get more moved in tonight after the wb season premieres. We’ll see…
Isn’t anyone else out there interested in going to all three of the LotR movies when RotK comes out? I’m very much looking forward to spending the day at the movie theatre ![]()
Hee! Go read the Dork Tower comic. It’s funny. And almost true…
Here’s a good distraction
StandardThe Return of the King trailer is here! Go watch 2 and a half minutes of goodness. I have to admit the absurd font of joy that spouted from me after watching this the first time. Eeek! December 17th seems so far away!
Things are coming together for the apartment. We’ll get gas and phone service soon so the place will actually be liveable
I still have to figure out what to do for a bed though. I’ve had some experience with futons and I’m just not sure if I like them or not. Didn’t have too good of a night’s sleep…but if I take the mattresses from home then what happens if I want to visit my parents/they want to make my room a guest bedroom? Bah. Whatever. I need a dresser and a desk as well. Wonder where they’ll go. And I want to buy some Legolas posters for decoration
and I’ll have to think up a scheme! Whoo. Let’s go spend some cash!

1. US presidential candidate Wes Clark said recently that the American people are “really embarrassed” by the Bush administration, though no source was quoted and no figures were provided. Do you believe this is true? As a US citizen, are you embarrassed by President Bush? I’m a little embarrassed by him. At least learn proper grammar and vocabulary. And he sent us to war, which in my book is about the dumbest thing he could have done at that point in time. Of course, I’m a Democrat and didn’t vote for him in the first place. I really can’t see him getting a second term…I am so sorry he got one at all.
2. Do you have good friends in countries other than your own? Which is the furthest away? How did you meet them? What makes them such a great friend? I have some pen pals/online im buddies from the Philippines, and one from France. Met all of them online at the FF boards, which sadly are having some server problems, but hopefully will be back soon.
3. Two cars on the road right now bug me more than any others. The PT Cruiser and the Hummer. I am just so tired of seeing a PT Cruiser everywhere I look! I thought these were supposed to be special, but they are just everywhere. Even the new VW Beetles weren’t this bad. Sure there were a lot of them, but that was nothing compared to the PT’s omnipresence. It just bugs, that’s all. And the Hummer. I didn’t mind so much when they were rare. When Ahhhnold drove his, it was special. Then you’d see one or two here and there. Maybe it is the attitude of the young men driving these monster tanks. They way they love to intimidate other drivers, the smug attitude they have looking down on you (literally). Of course, I am generalizing so if you drive either of these, you know I don’t mean you. Are there any models of automobile on the road that irritate you when you see them? The PT Cruiser doesn’t bother me that much although I think it’s a little odd looking. Hummers, on the other hand, bother me very much unless you are in the military. There is absolutely no need for such a huge car that takes up so much space and uses so much gas. And how many people buying a hummer (and who has that $50,000 lying around just for a car!?!?!?!) are actually going to use if for its intended off-roading purpose? Ha. I don’t think so. They’re just too honkin’ big and I don’t think anyone needs them.
4. When you were in school, did you ride the bus? Do you have any school bus horror stories? What really went on in the back seats anyway? I rode the bus. Too far to walk but too close to drive…the beauty of a small school district. I never minded the bus too much, sometimes the seats were cold, old, or sticky from the patching tape, but that was about it. Nobody ever wanted to sit in the back of the bus because the seats were smaller to make way for the emergency exit.
5. Last week, I asked what sort of things a man should never say to a woman. Now it is time to turn the tables. There are a few things a woman can say to a man that can totally emasculate him. Such as: “Hold my purse.” What sort of things should a woman never say to a man? I have no idea. Not too many men say things to me period therefore it’s hard for me to have a clue about what’s allowed in conversation 😉
6. Do you have a favorite cartoon Super Hero? Who and why? Er. Spiderman, I suppose, but Superman and Batman are pretty cool too…though I never was much of a comics fan. And it’s been far too long since saturday morning cartoons so I have no idea what I liked back then.
7. Just what does it take to make you happy? A really good book, fixing a website, making a layout, anything Lord of the Rings.
BONUS: How can you wait anymore when you’re wondering what you’re waitin’ for? I always feel like I’m waiting for something…I’ll let you know when I figure out what it is.
You probably noticed
Standardthat this page was missing most of the day. Or maybe you didn’t, because this is your first visit to etoiline.com…in which case, welcome. Anyway, those of you who got to see the entire ugly structure behind the facade, I’m sorry. Most of you know that when you visit etoiline.com you’re actually visiting etoiline.com/index.html. For some unknown reason, index.html and all single files not in a directory were deleted on my account (versus files in the Realm, which are in a different directory: etoiline.com/realm/index.php). I’m guessing it had something to do with my ftp being wonky earlier in the day, but luckily my host has archiving capability and I made use of it about three weeks ago. So yes, I’ll lose some stuff, but luckily the whole site was not deleted. They are taking quite the sweet time to restore the archive, however. I hope they’ll hurry up. I had to manually insert this index.html page…no big deal as the lovely blog is powered by greymatter and most of it’s in another directory…but some of the links might be broken. If you find one, please please let me know, because I don’t have an accurate list of files that are supposed to be on the server. Anyway. Go visit one of my other sites if this bores you
or go read moonstone and give me feedback!
Vampires, werewolves and elves
StandardWell, saw Underworld with Jess last night. It was dark. And it was late, and the theater was near empty…but the sound was cool. It gives you the little shivers with the transformations…not quite as good as say, Anita Blake books, but eh. Books are always better with that. Some gripes, like the transformations were a little sloppy and you couldn’t understand that Kraven guy (who did not look like he could *ever* be the leader of the vampires…and what’s with that weird accent?). Odd that the vamps didn’t seem to have too much of a fixation on blood, but maybe I’ve just been reading too many horror novels.
Not enough romance for my taste, but then again that’s why I’m attempting to write Decadence. There were a couple parts when I was saying, eh? and then I wondered what happened to the blond vamp later in the movie…but it’s so obvious that there is going to be a sequel, what with the way it ended, and indeed, empire online reported today that there is going to be a sequel. Well and good, I suppose. I’d probably see it again if I had people to see it with, just for the fact that it’s vamp/werewolf. Makes me very in the mood to write more of my fic.
Jess thought it was going to be sort of anime-ish. Needless to say she was surprised. It’s got some gore in it…but maybe I’m inured to it because it didn’t bother me. Rather I laughed disbelievingly at the ickiness of it. Ah well.
Did I mention how it’s a little odd to try to write a story with a character that’s quite different than me? I mean, I’m never really angry, I don’t have any werewolfish qualities…not that I know of anyway 😉 and I’m certainly not in love with someone from the wrong side of the tracks who I’m supposed to hate. So that’s my excuse for writing Decadence slowly.
And re: the elves…yes, I did go to the Renaissance Festival last weekend. My parents let me have the new van, which was an experience…never driven that far or that long before. Thank goodness for cruise control. We drove down saturday night and stayed at Jess’ friend’s new apartment, which was nice. Two cats and a very late night later, we got to the festival much later than planned, but ah well. I wore my Legolas outfit because above all I love comfort, and that tunic and frock, if badly sewn, are much more comfortable than a corset. Although I do think I look quite fetching in a corset. People apparently quite liked the outfit; I had several compliments like ‘that looks familiar’ or ‘how elven’ (from the people who work there, who, to stay in character, can’t let on that they recognize Lego, as this particular representation is from a movie, which certainly didn’t exist in that time period, but they have an entire fairy forest, so elves are quite welcome) and a few people asked where I got my vambraces. One man asked me where I got them and when I said I made them, he was quite surprised and said how he was getting married soon and he and his fiancee were having an elven theme. Now perhaps I should have offered my services, but I didn’t really want to subject myself to painting more at work 😉 And someone else liked the embroidery, which I always feel a little weird taking compliments on, because it’s just machine sewing. Albeit machine sewing that took much time and effort, but I would never try to hand sew something like that. But yay. People liked the outfit. One of the workers even asked if I worked the fest, and I had to say no. I wish I did. Unfortunately KC is much to far away from StL to make it worth it. Perhaps someday…
It rained on us a little bit, but nothing so hard as to drive us away early. We shopped, watched some of the shows, and walked between the raindrops. I bought some perfume that I’d been wanting for some time (Voodoo Charm and Carnival, which you’ll have never heard of unless you visit Majikah Perfumery) and some incense that I’ll finally be able to burn at the new apartment since it will be free of the motherly indict against burning anything at home.
Of course, the rain got worse on the way home. Sometimes it was quite hard and then it became foggy, so visibility was crappy. We got home later than we wished and I didn’t get to cruise nearly as much as I wanted to. but overall we had fun. Saw a sugar glider nestled in someone’s cleavage. Some very funny shows, some very good shows, neat shops. More time would have been nice, perhaps getting there earlier, but ah well. There’s always next year.
I think I’ll go attempt to write some more of Decadence now.
