The Realm is all around you

I am pleased to announce that the realm of calenhíril is completely finished! Well. All images work, the clique is up and running, the site has been nominated for some awards…so go visit. Join the clique. It’s quite easy now wink
Someone asked me What did Gimli say to Haldir when he said “ishkhakwi ai durug nul”? Was that an insult of some kind? and I’ll say, I believe that it was supposed to be an insult in dwarvish but I don’t think there ever was any meaning to it. I remember the clip in one of the fotr SE archives or commentaries where John Rhys-Davies was talking about that part and how much trouble he had saying it…and how it didn’t mean anything. Eh. Who knows. I’d have to watch FotR SE again wink
Someone else asked me my name, but unless you mean who I am, I can’t help you there…unless of course you were looking for your elvish name, in which case I would direct you to BarrowDowns. Yet another person asked, will i find HIM? and to that I say, dear God I hope so. Of course, that means I have to find “him” as well. Come on, someone out there is tall dark handsome and elvish. And whoever asked simply 3×5 would just get that it is my favorite John Mayer song and everyone should go to my stupid mouth and see if anyone’s got a live version available.
Go visit the realm. And for all those interested…I finished chapter six of The Moonstone Chronicles. If you’ve been reading it, you know what to do. If you haven’t, go read it and if you feel the need to read farther than chapter four, contact me to get the password…
Still haven’t heard about the apartment. Sigh. Ah well. Going home now…

Just so you know

I think I’ve fixed most of what’s wrong with the Realm, again. Some pictures are still not showing up and I have no idea why…they’ve got direct links and everything. Ah well. But anyway, the clique is up and running, you just can’t see the whole list, for some reason. So go join.
The Realm has been confirmed in the Middle Earth Awards and the Yummy-Lembas awards…yay! You can’t vote for me in those, but you can go visit and see what they’ve got. Links are on the Realm index page.

Autumnal Equinox

Standard

Fall begins this afternoon at 5:45 pm. It’s such a pretty day. Too bad I’ll be inside working on an extremely long ELISA all day. I’ll probably have to stay late again. Ah well.
Semi-peevish thing of the moment: they installed a gate on the parking lot that I park in at work. It took them quite a long time and then for at least two weeks (probably longer, I can’t remember the exact date they went in) the gates were up and you didn’t have to swipe your id to get into the lot. Yesterday they had them down and a transportation guy was watching to make sure people’s ids worked to open the gate. Mine worked just fine, but it’s a PAIN to have to stop and swipe and wait for the gate. It backed up traffic both ways. And of course you have to swipe to get out as well. Apparently having permits displayed in your car wasn’t enough to discourage free parkers, so they needed the gates…but it’s a bad idea, imo. And today they were open. Weird. Maybe they got too many complaints. Wouldn’t that be nice.
I’m already hungry. Geez. Haven’t been here a half hour yet. And the day stretches long before me…
hopefully today we’ll hear about the apartment and it will be good news. Keep your fingers crossed. And here’s mention about Leona who loves to see the apartment noted in the blog smile luff you!

PromoGuy dot Net: Monday Mission 3.38

1. Christine posted recently about her very first perfume. I remember my first cologne, it was Polo! Well what else would you expect from a kid who grew up in the 80’s? Eventually I moved on to Chaps and then Guess for Men. Ha! Now I don’t wear any. How’s that for progress? What was the first perfume or cologne you wore? Tell me about the memories that come to mind when you think about it/smell it again. I really don’t remember my first, but I got a lot of those little sample perfumes that had about a ml in them…Liz Claiborne and probably some Revlon stuff…whatever that pink baby powder thing was…(I hate baby powder smell now…weird. Wonder if I’ll like it again when I have a kid). Usually cheap stuff. I didn’t buy any kind of perfume but what you could get in the drugstore because I was not rich enough for the departments 😉 But I did wear my mom’s Red Door or Dilys or No. 1 on special occasions. Those are still good scents. I just bought some perfume at the renaissance festival which I’m very happy with: Voodoo Majick and Carnival 🙂

2.We’ve had a lot of cooler weather here in Oklahoma, it reminds me so much of Fall. Even though it isn’t Autumn, I find myself thinking of fires in the fireplace, taking walks and having a cold nose, and stopping for a flavored coffee on the way in to work. What are some of the best things about Fall? Shuffling through the leaves. Being able to wear a jacket but not freeze/overheat. Warm food becomes appealing again. I want a fireplace…the new apartment technically has one but we can’t light a fire in it. We’ll just put a cool candleabrum there.

3. I saw an episode of Dr. Phil recently where this good ol’ boy was just breaking his wife down left and right by making fun of her weight and the size of her rear end. I am amazed that men like this exist and are able to remain married. Why do some women put up with men who constantly insult them and/or abuse them? I have no idea. There is probably something to that “but I love him” thing…I stayed with my ex a lot longer than I should have because I thought I loved him. I hope if that ever happens again I’ll be able to recognise it and move on.

4. Speaking of that, obviously making fun of a woman’s weight is something that men should know not to ever do. Still, many of us are clueless. What are some things men should never say to women? Did I mention that my interaction with the opposite sex has been limited to classmates in the last few years? If a boy just speaks to me it’s quite an occasion. Although the guy you like should never say, ‘well, I went out with this girl last weekend and I really like her’ to you when you’re still at the ‘friend’ stage but were hoping for the ‘really GOOD friends’ phase…

5. I was cleaning out my closet recently and realized I had way too many shoes. There are some I never even wear anymore, but just keep because I have some memory attached to them, kind of silly really. How many pairs of shoes do you have? Is that too many or not enough? Do you keep shoes you know you will never wear again? I have no idea how many pairs of shoes I actually have stashed under my dresser and my bed. Quite a few are running shoes which aren’t really good for running anymore but they’re still in good condition. Others are old shoes that I just don’t have need to wear. There are a few which are probably too small but I can’t bring myself to part with them because of memories. I’m a pack rat…you should know this by now.

6. Another thing I have too many of is Photo Albums. They are everywhere! All shapes and sizes too. But as many as I have, I enjoy looking at other peoples photo albums more. Especially those found by the couch at my grandparent’s house. Every time we’d get together for Thanksgiving or Christmas, we grandkids would pull them out and spend hours laughing and remembering. Did your family keep a lot of photo albums around? Do you like looking at family photo albums? Ha. Hahahahahaha. We have lots of photo albums because my mother is a photography freak. However, the most recent album completed was I believe after my sixth year of life. So we’ve got quite a few albums up to that point…everything else is still in its little green envelope (labeled, or at least most of them are) in various places around the house. I don’t take nearly as many pictures as my mother does, so the most recent album made all by me goes up to somewhere around my sophomore year of college. However, there are still several envelopes full of pictures scattered around my room. I am a disorganized pack rat.

7. I’ve finally got a Friday night off to go out to a movie. You’re coming with, right? Great! I am leaving it all up to you though, you make the plans, who’s going, where to eat, the movie, whatever else later. I’ll be by a 7 to get you, so what’s the plan? Ha. Me, plan? Although this week is easy…since I went to the renaissance festival last weekend, which was the weekend Underworld opened, I would go see that. I actually might just do that once Jess has a night free.

BONUS: Come on baby, where’s your guts? Me?? Guts? Ha. My self-esteem isn’t that high.

For all you elf-lovers out there

the realm of calenhiril is finally up and running again with a totally new layout and redesign of the site. It’s php now so those pages shouldn’t be such a bear to update. Clique members I’m sorry, I’m still trying to work on the clique part, I have to transfer all the members over and that’s no fun. But I’ll get it working sometime. And eventually that means I’ll be able to finish the content sections of the main site, lol. Ah well.
But not this weekend. Looks like I’ll be going to the renaissance festival with jess after all. We’ll see. Early morning tomorrow if we do…and I’ve never driven that far before. We leave the driving up to my dad. Hopefully the ‘rents will let me have a car with cruise control. Wish me luck…I’ve gotta get home and sew the rest of that skirt!

Movin’ out

Standard

Well, Leona and I turned in our applications for the apartment we saw yesterday. It’s funny but of course you know my life is ironic…it was the last apartment we saw, it wasn’t the one we were actually going to see cause that one was taken…and my aunt showed us the place. And it’s nice to know someone in the biz cause the owner agreed to knock $100 off the rent it originally goes for. It’s still more expensive than we wanted, but it’s a great apartment. Stained glass entry doors, a sunroom, a nice living room (with a fireplace that doesn’t work, but there’s always candles) the bedrooms are the same size or thereabouts (and one has a bay window! Yay!) a nice bathroom with two sinks, and a new kitchen. There’s a deck out back and in the center of all these buildings there’s a community garden. And it’s where we wanted it, close enough to both the Hilltop and the Med School…whoohoo.
So now we have to wait to see if the credit check goes through…might not, for me…I have no credit, really, unless you count me always paying my loans on time…but we should be able to move in late next week. Yay. Course, that means I have to a) clean up my room and figure out what’s going with me and what I can trash and b) go shopping for things like dressers and bedframes. That should be exciting…not going to make any profit for the next couple of paychecks…
Underworld comes out today. In honor of this, you should read Decadence (what’s up of it, anyway) and I swear I started writing that before I had any idea such a movie was being made.

the friday five:

1. Who is your favorite singer/musician? Why? Right now it’s John Mayer…because he has great lyrics and guitar riffs, and he’s cute enough to be an idol.

2. What one singer/musician can you not stand? Why? I really don’t like the Fine Young Cannibals. Remember them? And some may call it blasphemy but I’m not to fond of Nirvana.

3. If your favorite singer wasn’t in the music business, do you think you would still like him/her as a person? Possibly. It would depend if he was writing something…I don’t know if I would go for him on looks alone. He has a great voice though, so I don’t know what else he would do 😉

4. Have you been to any concerts? If yes, who put on the best show? I’ve been to more concerts since I got out of high school than the entire 17 years before college. John Mayer is great, DMB is great…Jars of Clay are wonderful to see onstage. Ben Folds is very fun to see live.

5. What are your thoughts on downloading free music online vs. purchasing albums? Do you feel the RIAA is right in its pursuit to stop people from dowloading free music? My take is that it’s just like taping a song off the radio. I like it because if there’s just one song you want, you can listen to it and not have to buy the entire album or pay for five other remixes that you don’t want. Another nice thing about dl’ing is that you can test out a song to see if you want to buy the album. I’d rather have the official cd anyway (it just seems cooler, I guess) but I don’t want to buy it if it’s gonna be a lemon. If you download it you can see if you like the album enough to buy it. If there were more places like Borders where you can preview nearly every cd in the place (places closer to my house, anyway) I probably wouldn’t even consider dl’ing.
