The Gender Genie

Put a text passage into the box and see if the genie can determine your gender! It was wrong on both the things I put into it…perhaps I’m a masculine sounding writer. lol. Give it a try.

Monday Mission 3.37

1. Chrystal said in last week’s Monday Mission that the chore she dreaded most was having to “fold and put away clothes.” What regular chore(s) do you dread the most? Cleaning my room. Or trying to find room for the clothes that are clean.

2. Have you ever tried any of the “tabbed” browsers like MyIE2, Safari or Mozilla Firebird? Do you like it better than a one-window browser? How come? Never tried them as I don’t have the newest operating system…can’t wait for OS X Panther. Like I’m really gonna get a computer then. Ah well. I can dream.

3. I was told last night that normal people don’t spend as much time on the computer as I do. That if I’d devote that energy toward something else, anything else, I could have probably cured cancer by now. I don’t think my time is wasted when I am on-line or otherwise working on the PC, but maybe it really is more time than so-called “normal’ people. Do you ever get criticized for being on the computer too much? How much time do you spend on the PC and/or on-line? Is it too much time are or do they just not “get” us? I do spend too much time on the computer. Just have too much stuff I want to do. And people to talk to on AIM…Some people don’t get it. My mom doesn’t get it. She doesn’t think it should take a long time to look at things with a dial-up connection. eh. I spend about two hours every night online at least. More on the weekends.

4. One of the phrases I notice every week when read in the job listings is “must be a highly motivated self-starter..” I have no idea what that means. To me it sounds like what they really want to say is “must be able to take a lot of crap and not complain.” That could be why I don’t get many second interviews. In your opinion, what is a “self-starter?” Are you a “self-starter?” Eh. Don’t want to say no cause then people won’t hire me 😉 I tend to be more comfortable when people tell me what to do rather than making my own schedule up. Regimented work seems to be the best for me. But I like having the time to complete it in my own way. Pretty bad, I suppose. Wish I was a self-starter, someone who knows what they want and how to get it and what to do to get to the next level. I hope I become that someday.

5. Let’s take that thought one step further: Write a Job Ad that describes you perfectly (as you are now, not as your “ideal” self) as well as the ideal job you’d like to get paid for doing. Now: Looking for someone to give instructions to and let them run with it. Give you detailed directions and won’t look over your shoulder. Something related to the sciences. No lab meetings. So the ideal would be: ISO female to work on editing new fantasy books and/or illustrating covers. Deadlines often but enough free time to write your own boook. Work on the website and look for new writers to recruit.

6. As you may know, I have (Adult)ADD in a bad way, severe even. Although I’d very much like to be rid of it, I don’t take meds for it because they made me very irritable and very unpleasant to be around. Do you take medications on a regular basis, or ever attempted to? Have they caused any side effects? Is it worth enduring them for the benefit you receive from the medication? When I was in school I took medicine for ADD. I think it helped me, at least in the mornings, to concentrate on class and not how tired I was. It made my stomach a little jumpy and my mouth really dry, but it was worth it to get an A in a 9 am class. Other than vitamins I don’t take any other medications on a regular basis.

7. Some things should just stay in the past, you know? I’ve found many memories are better as memories. When you try to re-live them they never seem to be able to live up to the memory. Maybe we glamorize them over time. Or maybe they were as good as we think, but something from “now” gets in the way and you just can’t get past it. What moment from the past have you tried to re-live that has fallen short of the memory? Um. I honestly can’t think of anything right now. Pretty much whatever I’ve really wanted to do for a while is good whenever you do it. Although sometimes (rarely) rereading a book is not as good as the first time through. But most of the time I can reread a book hundreds of times and I can still remember the awe I felt the first time I read a particular passage or finished a really good book. I love to read, did you guess?

BONUS: Didn’t your mama tell you life is too good too waste? I hope I’m not wasting my life. That would suck.

I believe
that my life’s gonna see
the love I give
returned to me

Courtesy of John Mayer. I just love this song. It’s probably the best song lyrics-wise on the new album. I think this is true. Someday I’m gonna get back all I put into life, just like Emerson said. We get out of life only what we put into it.
and you won’t be the first
no, you won’t be the first
to love me

isn’t it strange how everyone has that ‘first love’ and no one can ever make you forget that. Even today I wonder where he is and what he’s doing and if he thinks of me. And even if he’s alive. He was in the army reserves and I wonder if he was sent to the middle east. all his emails bounce. And I wonder if I’ll be able to keep myself from comparing any other guy to his admittedly rather low standards.
and if you never stop when you wave goodbye
you just might find if you give it time
you will wave hello again

things just keep coming back. Today was the 150th anniversary of Washington University in St. Louis. Yay alumni. I got a keychain and a bookmark and free ice cream. Go Ted Drewes (It’s a StL thing). It seems like whenever I leave a place they get money for renovations or new equipment…I should just sell my services. Take me into your institution and let me stay for a while…when I leave you’ll get an endowment! From someone else of course. Anyway, they started working on the library to make it more modern and better suited to the campus…and they added a new lab sciences building the the very annoying new biomedical engineering building, Uncas A Whittaker hall. Poor Uncas. What were his parents thinking? That building was finished the December after I graduated. But there were still the classic buildings full of memories and horrors (eek! Louderman! Yay, Graham Chapel!) And there was Magic Mark Wrighton, the chemical chancellor wink Yes, an egg can fit in a flask, and you can break a rose into a million tiny pieces and hammer rubber through foam core. And Taiko drums are some of the coolest things ever. I should learn the drums. Of course, as Alex stated, I ought to stick to one instrument at a time given my propensity for long learning curves…and Leo and I looked at another apartment. I wish the process was faster. I wish we had unlimited funds. I hope we find one soon. Or at least one for Leo…
in airports you see it all the time
where someone’s last goodbye
blends in with someone’s sigh
cause someone’s coming home
in hand a single rose

We’re seeing the Lion King again on Tuesday. The Circle of Life indeed. And in two weeks we’ll finally learn why Sydney is in Hong Kong two years after she disappeared…
and now I’ll sleep.

I’ll be around

the friday five:

1. Is the name you have now the same name that’s on your birth certificate? If not, what’s changed? Same. Only change I can anticipate is marriage.

2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be? I like my name, if sometimes it feels a little common. At least I’m not named Ann. (If you know what my last name is, you’ll understand.) But I wouldn’t mind being Arienne or something pretty like that…something that sounds more Celtic than Jennifer (although it is from the Celtic white wave so go fig.)

3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?) My mom named me, but they both decided on it. They hadn’t read the article that the year I was born Jennifer was the most popular girl’s name. They did think I was going to be a boy for a while, so I was almost Mark or John, like my dad and grandfather and uncle 😉

4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why? I’m not so hot on Katy. Eh. I don’t think about names that much. I really like ancient sounding names…reminiscent of mythology, that sort of thing.

5. Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com / triggur.org / name analysis / astroexpert accurate? How or how isn’t it? Kabalarians is quite accurate. I like knowing the meaning behind my name…and sometimes it’s scary how much you can generalize names. I’ll have to spend a long time looking at name books when I finally do have children.

Looked at a couple of apartments yesterday. Who knows what will come of that. It sure would be nice to have an apartment all to myself…er to me and my roommate. She needs one ASAP. We’ll look more this weekend. Saw my uncle last night. He moved to a room out of the ICU but now they’re trying to find a bed for him in another hospital so he can have some sort of procedure to find the bleeding. He was doing ok for a while but then he had to have another transfusion and he needs to be transfusion free for two weeks before this other procedure. Aie.
Thank Goodness it’s Friday. This week has been too long. I need more sleep. Alas, back to work I go.
