Eh. Run out of titles much? Hopefully I’ll win the auction for a scanner that supposedly will work with the Biondi iMac we’re using at home…it’s quite annoying that our old serial port comp just went wonkers and therefore us having to use the USB comp, which has no serial port for the scanner…needless to say, I’m chuffed that we might have a scanner again. Yay technology. Soon hopefully I’ll get my pics back from SD/CC and I can show you some pics of me looking silly in my costume (…savez? lol. inside joke.), as well as scanning in my latest Will Turner sketch…as soon as it’s done.
Of course, I was the only person to bid on this scanner, and it has no reserve and started at $1…ends tomorrow. Think I’ll win wink Even with the $20 shipping, not a bad deal, eh? I just hope it works. Supposed to be new in the box with all the manuals and software and cords. I hope. Eek. Just realized putting in new scanner means cleaning up area around old one. Meh. This is really just one big ramble so I’ll shush now. Go read Fool’s Errand, or better yet, buy it and the other six books by Robin Hobb. You won’t regret it.

PromoGuy dot Net: Comment on Monday Mission 3.32

1. Over the weekend, the folks at work cleaned out the refrigerator. Now this is a wonderful thing when you consider the food sometimes lurking about. Not so good when you have forgotten to take your leftovers home. So when I came in today, they had tossed out my Asiago Cheese Bagel from Panera Breads that I was looking forward to eating for breakfast. They even threw away the Tupperware of cream cheese I brought. Talk about a disappointing way to start your day. Have you ever been looking forward to something so badly that you were just crushed when it never happened? Ooh, asiago bagels. I’d be peeved as well. Does looking forward to Nationals and not making it count? I swear. we were so close, and we couldn’t cut those tenths of seconds off. There are probably other things I’m forgetting, but obviously can’t remember them at this moment. My mom told me about the day she kept thinking she smelled Chevy’s mexican food all day in the car and dreamed about going home and having the leftovers from the day before, then realizing the reason she smelled them in the car was because my parents had left the take-home boxes in the back of the van all day…and therefore they couldn’t be eaten because they’d sat in the hot sun. She was truly disappointed.

2.Have you ever been told about a wonderful present that you were never given? Maybe they went as far as telling you exactly what it was, how wonderful it would be and how much they would have loved for you to have it, but for whatever reason, they wouldn’t be giving it to you after all? How did you feel about that? Oy. I don’t think so. I’ve been lucky enough to get just about whatever I wanted, and no one was mean enough to do that. There have probably been little things, or at least things that aren’t important in the long run, but again, recall that I don’t remember my childhood.

3. What is the longest time you’ve ever kept a secret from someone, or, are you still keeping it? How did it feel to keep it so long? Can you think of a situation you were in where a secret should never have been told? Hmm. I’m still keeping secrets from over five years ago…I don’t think I’ll ever tell anyone about what happened during some of those nights with DT.

4. In past relationships, I’ve usually been the one who has told the lies. When they came to light, the results were devastating. The few times I found out I was lied to really gave me a sense of what it must have been like. Have you ever been lied to by someone you trust with all your heart? How did it feel when you found out that trust had been broken? Oh. Yeah. Lies. Perhaps it wasn’t so much lies as being blinded to the truth. It hurt. It really did. And it took me two years to get over it. In some ways, I’ll never be over it, really.

5. When, if ever, is it acceptable to tell a lie? Are “white lies” any different than the “real whoppers?” You don’t tell someone they look fat. You compliment your five year old cousin when he gives you a mud ball. Is that bad? Is it the same level as lying to your parents about where you went last night? I don’t think so. Some lies are necessary for politeness. Obviously it’s a matter of opinion. Be polite, but as honest as you can be.

6. I’ve found that when it comes to forgiving, I am a contradiction. If I’ve hurt someone I get mad when they won’t forgive me right away, but when I need to forgive someone else, I find it hard to do. How are you on forgiveness? Are you able to easily forgive someone who’s hurt you? Well. most of the times when I need forgiveness it’s because I’ve wronged my parents, or I feel they’ve wronged me. So it’s not so much easily forgiving as loving too much to be angry for too long.

7. When I’m feeling down, or have no energy Dead or Alive’s “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)” never fails to perk me up and get me going. What song gets your feet going and your energy flowing? U2’s Where the Streets Have No Name. Or something John Mayer, at least right now.

BONUS: Why not come dancing? You’d have to pay to get me in the club, though.

Pop culture, anyone?

This song has been on repeat all weekend. I adore it. I can’t wait for Sept 9, which is when John Mayer’s new cd comes out. Check out Aspire II for the full lyrics. They’re so meaningful…his songs always have some little tidbit of greatness buried in them, and you really have to look at them. There’s so much to be appreciated. I’ve got to try to get copies of some of his live concerts. He’s one of the few artists that sound just as good if not better live as in studio. JM definitely inspired me to try to learn guitar. I would love to be able to make music like that, to inspire someone else to express themselves…someday. Someday I’ll soar.

Bigger than my body – John Mayer

This is a call to the colorblind

This is an IOU

Stranded behind a horizon line

Try to be something true

Yes, I’m grounded

Got my wings clipped

I’m surrounded by

All this pavement

Guess I’ll circle

While I’m waiting

For my fuse to dry

Chorus:

Someday I’ll fly

Someday I’ll soar

Someday I’ll be

Something much more

Cause I’m bigger than my body

Gives me credit for

Why is it not the time?

What is there more to learn?

I’ve shed this skin I’ve been tripping in

And I’ve never quite returned

Yes, I’m grounded

Got my wings clipped

I’m surrounded by

All this pavement

Guess I’ll circle

While I’m waiting

For my fuse to dry

Chorus

Cause I’m bigger than my body now

Maybe I’ll tangle in the power lines

And it might be over in a second’s time

But I’ll gladly go down in a flame

If the flame’s what it takes to remember my name

To remember my name, oh

Yes, I’m grounded

Got my wings clipped

I’m surrounded by

All this pavement

Guess I’ll circle

While I’m waiting

For my fuse to dry

Chorus

Cause I’m bigger than my body

Bigger than my body

Bigger than my body now

the friday five:

1. What’s the last place you traveled to, outside your own home state/country? LA/San Diego, California, for Comic-Con 2003 (and meeting Lammy 😉 )

2. What’s the most bizarre/unusual thing that’s ever happened to you while traveling? Mom getting sick enough to have to go to the hospital while on a college visit to UMich and me finding the USA Today article on stem cells that would shove me into biomedical engineering.

3. If you could take off to anywhere, money and time being no object, where would you go? China or Paris. Or maybe just a grand tour of Europe.

4. Do you prefer traveling by plane, train or car? I don’t necessarily prefer traveling by car, but it’s the cheapest, so that’s what usually happens. I haven’t traveled anywhere by train in years. I should try it.

5. What’s the next place on your list to visit? Indianapolis, this weekend, for more than a track meet.

1. When you take a vacation, do you ever suffer from Internet withdrawal? Or maybe the nagging urge to blog or read blogs? Or are you glad to be away? Yeah, I do, but it’s mainly that people are sending me email that will clutter my inbox if I don’t check it. I hate spam. Have I mentioned that before?

2. Have you ever been “furloughed” (told to take time off work without pay) or laid off? How did that impact your family dynamics? Your finances? If not to you, have you seen it happen to anyone you know? How did they handle it? I haven’t been “laid off” per se but I have been told there wasn’t enough work for me. This was partly due to my own stupidness, but it still sucked. Since I live with my parents it wasn’t all that much of a stretch on the finances, but now that I’ve got a new job I’m helping out with the car repayments and utility bills. It would be glorious if we could win the lottery. My dad was laid off sometime when I was younger…I don’t remember much about it.

3. If you fell on hard times, what is are some non-essential reoccurring luxury expenses (cable TV, TiVo subscription, cigarettes, high-speed net connection, newspaper, daily Starbucks coffee, etc.) you would give up to save money? I guess it would have to be the internet connection, buying books/cds, etc. We really don’t do all that much luxurious…we don’t even eat out that much. So it’s difficult to cut back sometimes.

4. On the same thought, what is the one non-essential expense you would NOT give up? Cable, because my mom needs it when she’s working, and it allows us to see fewer movies in the theater and watch them at home instead.

5. Would you ever ask your family (parents, in-laws, relatives) for financial assistance? What would be some of your concerns about asking for help? Have you ever asked for it before? Did it go well? Well, I *live* with my parents, and they paid for my college, so yeah, it went well 🙂 I have a dream that someday I’ll be able to help them pay off all their bills and buy them a new house with a greenhouse in the back and a workroom with a sink. I mean to pay them back.

6. Has a friend or relative ever borrowed money from you? Who were they and how much did they want? Did you ever get paid back, or did it matter? Did you feel compelled to keep an eye on them to see if they spent it wisely? Mmm. Nothing more than a few dollars, really…

7. Imagine you won a tax-free gift of $7,000. The only stipulation on the gift is that it must not be invested or saved, and must be spent before 2004. How would you use the money? New Powerbook, baby! And a home theather, and whatever’s left over is spent on books and music.

BONUS: Whatever happened to unity? I think it went the way of the dodo.
