The Friday Five
1. How many houses/apartments have you lived in throughout your life? two. six if you count the four years of college dorms.
2. Which was your favorite and why? I like this house. But I liked living in the apartment senior year the best, I suppose.
3. Do you find moving house more exciting or stressful? Why? Stressful because I have to clean. But it’s nice to clean, in a way. I just hate doing it sometimes.
4. What’s more important, location or price? Price.
5. What features does your dream house have (pool, spa bath, big yard, etc.)? Lots of space. Windows. A studio. pool, basketball court, hill for sledding, huge entertainment center. Massaging shower. I could go on but it’s late, so I won’t.

StandardSo, last night (er. Tuesday night, anyway) the eleventh book in the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series came out. And since the lovely author, Laurell K Hamilton, lives in StL, we got to have the first book signing
I wasn’t able to get to the bookstore until about a half hour before she was supposed to start signing, so I got a really high line number. As I have a job interview tomorrow (pray/cross your fingers/send good vibes my way) and I need to get to bed, I’ll give you the really short version: it took over four hours to get my books signed. Sheesh. Not that I don’t love the lady and her books but good Lord that’s insane. So I basically mucked around a bookstore all night. They even kept the place open for at least 45 min after closing time so we could all get our books signed. Strangely enough I couldn’t seem to read the book too much while I was waiting (I perused other items in the store) and I think it was because I was in too much of a hurry to get to the store so I didn’t bring my cd player. Sigh. I love to read to music. I know that weirds some people out, but I need something in the background. I didn’t get home until a little after midnight. Ah well. And then I stayed up reading half the book…and with an amazing show of willpower, I managed to shut it and go to sleep. Only to wake up and read the rest of it. It’s shorter than the last, which is disappointing, but other parts of the book more than made up for that. And now I really wish she was only writing the one series so the next book will come out very quickly…alas I think we have to wait at least a year and a half. More if/when I have time.
So I said I’d keep this short. Hah. Ok. One more good thing. Finally got the Children of Dune soundtrack. Track 8: Inama Nushif has been on repeat for the last few hours. mmm.
btw, did you notice there are now smileys available for your enjoyment?

The beginning of the week memes:
PromoGuy’s Monday Mission 3.13
1. How old will you be on your next birthday? I will have attained 23 years of life on August 27, 2003.
2. One of the presents I was given for my birthday was a “George Foreman Grill.” I’ve always joked about them, so it was kind of a joke gift. But it turns out, it is a really neat little grill. Then it hit me, this is a gadget, except it is for the kitchen. Then I thought about it and realized that “gadgets” aren’t just techno-toys, gadgets are everywhere. What is your favorite gadget? Um. I don’t really have gadgets, I don’t think.
3. Tell me about someone that you lost touch with several years ago. Would you like to get back in touch with them again? What caused the separation? Has enough time passed? Would you still get along? Hmm. I guess I’d like to know what’s going on with people from high school. Ironically enough, if it happens, this year is my five year anniversary from hs. Eek. Most of the people I just lost touch with because we all got away from this town and went to college or got married, etc. Of course, I lost touch with some of them because I broke up with Chris. Sigh. Men. Can’t live with them, can’t avoid getting dumped on by your friends who suddenly became his friends.
4. I’ve not met many online friends in real-life (I.R.L.), but I’ve always assumed we’d get along great if we met. But then again, if we would since my online personality (brash, outgoing) seems so different from how I see my RL offline version (introverted). Is there a difference between your online personality and your real-life version? Or are you pretty much the same person either way? I hope I’m pretty much the same. I’m possibly more talkative online than in rl, but I have no idea as I’ve never met anyone who can tell me 🙂
5. Being the quiet type, I have often felt like the online world has given me a greater chance to meet people I’d never meet IRL. In fact, I would bet that I would have never met any of you IRL if we had been in the same bookstore or coffee shop. So in that sense, I think the Internet has helped inter-personal communication for many people. Can you think of any ways that the Internet hinders person-to-person communication? What could we do to change things? Well, if we all had webcams life would be great. It’s hard to not be able to see the emotions on the person’s face, which is why there are emoticons, I suppose. I’m happy I have internet. Otherwise I’d have never met people from Cali, Canada, Australia, and the Philippines, to name a few. Besides, sometimes it’s nice to talk, but to not have to talk face-to-face.
6. Last night, about 1AM I was overcome with this amazing sense of inner peace. I hadn’t prayed, or done anything spiritual, yet, I felt like life was truly good and things could only get better. It seemed like I was given a mental “nudge” as if to say, quot; You’re doing great kid, stay with it and everything will keep getting better.” When was the last time you felt truly happy, or had that sense of perfect inner-peace? What does it take to get that feeling back when you need it? sheesh. sometime in school, most likely sometime during a track meet where the team was winning and I wasn’t doing so badly myself. I miss that feeling. Sometimes I get it when I’m reading a book, but alas, I’m a quick reader, so the feeling doesn’t last.
7. There are times when I just want to tell someone off. I don’t usually, since I have to work with them. Sometimes it is a family member and that would be even worse on down the road if I cut loose. If you could just verbally let loose on someone and be able to say anything you want, without repercussions, who would you say it to and what would you say? I have no idea. Perhaps Bush and I’d rail at him for sending us to war. Stupid Republican. Sometimes my mom and I’d ask why she thinks I should be off the computer at midnight. Sometimes God for not answering me. But I don’t do any of those…I’ve even gotten better at holding my tongue.
BONUS: Are we alive or just a dying planet? I hope we’re alive….

10. Thought-Provoking Question of the Week: You have a young child (or just babysit one), who is about 6-7 years old, and you like to play various games with him/her. Do you: let the child win sometimes to help improve his/her self-esteem, or play normally, in order to teach the child that we can’t always win in life? I’d hopefully remember to do both.
Happy April Fools!

Hopefully tonight I’ll be at Barnes & Noble getting the new Anita Blake book signed by Laurell K Hamilton herself. Here’s hoping I get there on time and I meet people and she’s nice. Damn but I hope the new book is good, and something that I’m hoping for is in there…you should read them

StandardThe title’s just to remind myself of something. Ignore it.
You probably realized by now that I don’t agree with what Bush decided to get us into. But since we’ve got fighting guys and girls over there (anywhere, really) and I think they should be respected, send a thank you to a service-man or -woman.
I’m working on a new layout for the site, really. I don’t know if it will be up in time for next week or not. I had this idea which should have been cool but ended up not being something I liked. So.
The Etoiline.com network has a new member! Please welcome Daph and her site, Enabled Element. Hope you enjoy it! And don’t forget to visit my first hostee, Nessa, at Orlicandie.
