PromoGuy’s Monday Mission 3.06
1. In the states, every citizen is expected to perform their civic duty and serve on a jury at some point. This week, I am on jury duty. Have you ever had to serve on a jury? Not yet. My dad just did. I’ll probably have to sometime soon.
2. If you were to ever serve on a jury, would you be able to give someone the death penalty? I honestly don’t know. I’d probably be a wimp and go along with majority opinion if I could figure out what it was. I think I’m in favor of it for certain reasons, grisly murder, raping serial killer, etc, but I’d really have to be in the situation to give a definitive answer.
3. One thing that concerns me about jury duty is what my life would be like if I had to convict someone. I’d always be worried about some sort of retaliation from the convict, or their family. Has fear of negative consequences ever kept you from reporting a crime or voicing your opinion? Probably. I don’t think I’ve ever been witness to an actual crime, something that deserved persecution, and I don’t think that the Mob is after me…If I knew the person was guilty I’m pretty sure I’d be able to convict.
4. When it comes to convictions, I’ve never even been convicted of speeding (accused yes, but heh, never convicted). Have you ever been accused of or convicted for breaking any laws? What’s the real story there? I almost got a traffic ticket. Got caught by the cop behind me (who I couldn’t see cause it was dark) running a red light. The closest place to pull over was right in front of an Applebee’s so I was mortified that all these people’s dinners were getting interrupted cause of the flashing red & blue lights. I was so embarrassed. I thought for sure he was gonna give me a ticket and I’d have to go to court and my parents would be so pissed. Turns out he didn’t, he just gave me a warning, thank the Lord. So I officially have nothing on my licence. Whew!
5. It looks like I will have a lot of time on my hands this week in the jury pool. I may get called, I may not. If not, I go back tomorrow. Rinse, wash, repeat. How would you pass the time if you had to sit and wait around from 8am-5pm for 5 days? Probably the same thing I do when I’m bored at lab meeting…doodle and think up new words for my novel. Maybe write a bit. I think I’d have a hard time with jury duty cause I tend to drift off and not pay attention to what’s being said cause I’m so into drawing or writing. eeg. Cross that bridge when I come to it, I suppose. That and the tendency I have to doze when I’m the slightest bit bored…
6. One thing I do like about this “civic duty” is that it will be at the downtown courthouse. I LOVE downtown. There is just so much life there. What part of your town is your favorite to visit? Why? What makes it so special? I don’t really have a favorite part of the city right now. I guess it could be the Loop or maybe downtown, but to tell you the truth, as a lifetime St Louis resident, I don’t know that much about the city. I spent most of my time pretty isular in Affton, and then in the Wash U bubble…
7. I’m not that outgoing around strangers, so I doubt I will be meeting many new people this week. Do you have any problems striking up a conversation with someone you don’t know? Have chance encounters with strangers ever led to interesting new relationships or opportunities? Always have trouble talking to strangers. Even when I’m talking on the phone. I hate the phone. I suppose some of the people I’ve met through school, track, etc, those turned out well, but on the whole I’m not the kind of person who can go up to someone and introduce myself. I’m much more comfortable being introduced…
BONUS: So if I tell you that you’re really something baby, will you stay or will you go away ? I’d probably stay cause not too many people tell me that.

Rings Thing
StandardWe’ve mostly discussed the heroes in LOTR. What about the villains? What do you think of the way they were written and portrayed in the movies? If you read the books, are they as you pictured them?
(visit the new Rings Thing LJ)
So. Villains. I definitely liked Saruman better in the book than I like him onscreen, he was developed more. However, I really like how Christopher Lee plays him. He looks like he should. Sauron…He looks pretty good for a flaming eyeball. Obviously, it’s easier to portray a flaming eyeball as a villain in a book where you can just accept the concept, whereas in the movie it’s gotta be an actual force, and that’s tough to do. I think it flew pretty well…I think the baddies (orcs, Uruks, etc) were done really well. Esp. the wraiths. You really get a chill when they come by! I usually read those parts really quickly and never formed an image of them. Besides, who wants to carry that around in your imagination if you don’t have to? lol. And if you consider Gollum a villain (which he definitely can be) he was a) wonderfully created in the book and in the movie and b) much better than I expected in the movie. It’s great to have one of those ambiguously villainous characters that you don’t know whether to pity or hate.
Course, now that I have the dvd I’ll just skip over all the ugly parts and focus on Legolas
Kidding. I almost never skip. I do occasionally rewind…
Orlicandie and more
StandardI’m hosting my first site! Whoohoo! Go check out Orlicandie and let Nessa know what you think!
Saw Shanghai Knights with Alex last night. Very good, very funny, and some nice cinematographic moments. And Randy Edelman did the music, which is a good thing. I think it might have been funnier than the first one. Lots of niiiice martial arts. A good villain. Swordplay. A girl who could kick ass. Rock on.
So I was silly and got the 2-disc set of Moulin Rouge. Very cool. There’s this interactive version that shows behind the scenes stuff, but only got to see some of the extras on the second disc cause (get this) I’m supposed to search for these old-version shoes my mom wants and antique glass eyes for this miniature ox statue we’ve got. Something from a chinese legend. I have a feeling I’m not going to find either. Ah well.
Had a longish chat with Jem about Moonstone words last night. Er, this morning. I just get lost in talking about stuff I’ve made up. Isn’t that silly? But it’s so fun. cer’athe elthione i’c laeva, tuo cire. Arro ish bian quor, min Chief cist mo. and cedde tuon bianne e bie! and Pad na corure? ish tu’toranar. None of which are in use yet, but will be shortly
I know what they all mean and I made up present tense conjugation. lol. my made up language has some grammar! hopefully I can get many chapters written this year. lol. And I haven’t forgotten about Decadence, it’s just tough to get in the mood with that one. Someday, grasshopper. If you have anything to say about either of these, please, please leave a comment or something. I love feedback.
Rings Thing Extravaganza
StandardWe’ve now seen two countries, Rohan and Gondor (well, a *bit* of Gondor!) that we hadn’t seen in FOTR. Given the choices so far, where in Middle Earth would you want to live? If you answered this last year for FOTR, has your answer changed, and why?
I’m still with the elves, for anyone who is wondering. The forests of Rivendell and Lothlorien, the darkness of Mirkwood…and who knows, you might catch a glimpse of Legolas somewhere…although it would be nice to see the Window on the West.
What are your favorite moments in TTT? Specifically, and in general? What makes them your favorites–most moving, most emotional, most beautiful? Are they other than what you might have expected them to be, prior to seeing the movie?
Favorite moments: anything to do with Legolas. Seriously. Also, Gandalf and Eomer’s charge down the hill at Helm’s Deep. Such great music. Such a great way to end the seige. The Ents attacking Isengard. It’s just so much fun. Esp. when the burning ent quenches himself in the flood. And wonderful music, to boot. Sense a trend? Legolas getting on the horse (or should I say flying?) Legolas telling Aragorn, Le abdollen. Sense another trend? lol.
I sure hope all you PC folk out there appreciate what I did for you. Cause this layout is still being weird on my Mac. Enjoy it, regardless.
Per aspera ad astra (to the stars through difficulty)
The Friday Five (very early on friday)
1. What did you have for breakfast this morning? If you didn’t have breakfast, why not? I had a glass of OJ. Juice doesn’t really constitute breakfast for me, I was sort of running late. I slept too long (even though I didn’t have to go to work, I’m job hunting today) so I only had time for juice. Managed to eat only crackers until dinner. Not because I want to lose weight, just never got around to it. Besides, I had homemade chicken and dumplings for dinner. Makes it all better.
2. What’s your favorite cereal? Depends on what’s on sale. Although Berry Kix is a current fav.
3. How often do you eat out? Do you want that to change? More than what’s good for us, less than I want to. We should eat in more cause it’s cheaper…
4. What do you plan on having for dinner tonight? Got a recipe for that? Probably leftover dumplings, lol. And as for the recipie, you’d have to email my grandma.
5. What’s your favorite restaurant? Why? Probably a tie between Red Lobster and Pasta House. Seafood or pasta, how can you choose? Chevy’s being a close second/third. And Ding Ho’s just because they have good Chinese food.
This or That
1. Morning or night person? Night. Of course.
2. Heavy or light sleeper? heavy.
3. Remember your dreams or not? Not as often as I’d like.
4. Do you need a lot of sleep, or just a little? I can deal with less, but give me a place to sleep and I can go a looooong time…
5. Do you need something like a nightlight or TV to sleep, or do you prefer complete darkness? total darkness, please. Unless it’s a boring class, and then anything goes.
6. Flannel sheets or some other kind? cotton. anything else gets too hot.
7. One pillow, or more? two.
8. Bedroom door opened or closed at night? closed, so the heat stays in.
9. Wrap yourself into blankets like a cocoon, or just cover yourself with them? pretty cocoonish. After all, I’ve got no one to sleep with.
10. Alarm clock: wake to music or buzzer? music.
v.6 – vanya elda
Standardokeydokey, there’s a new layout. still working out the kinks, as you can tell. Why does it never work right the first time? you can still comment, though, so send me your thoughts. K?
PromoGuy’s Monday Mission 3.05
1. Do you remember the first LP, 45, CD or CD single that you bought? Recreate the scene for me.I don’t remember the first tape I got, nor any records that I might have bought when I was young, but I do remember the first CDs I was given: Billy Joel’s River of Dreams and a Tales from the Crypt Christmas. That one was never listened to. lol. I think that was ’93. Took me a while to get into cds.
2. What was the last CD or song that you actually paid money for? Avril Lavigne’s Let Go, John Williams American Symphony, and Guster: Lost and Gone Forever. Slightly less recent purchases include matchbox twenty, Josh Groban’s concert cd/dvd, and the Sneakers soundtrack.
3. It is my personal opinion that “Munchos” and “Funions” are the most perfect snack food ever. What do you think is the best snack food ever? Cheetos puffs. Even though they’re horrible for you. Of course, Chevy’s chips aren’t bad either…
4. Comedian George Carlin once pointed we consider the things we like to keep around us to be our “stuff,” whereas other people’s stuff is just junk
to us (ok, he used more colorful language, but you get the idea). What “stuff” do you have that someone else might just throw away if they were cleaning out your house? Practically everything in our house. We’re packrats. There’s lots of random stuff from ancient dress-up days, Girl Scouts, art supplies, old homework, yada yada…
5. Do you think it is wrong for people to rush to e-Bay and start selling Space Shuttle Columbia collectibles? Definitely.
6. Does it bother you when President Bush speaks about God and invokes scripture quotations from the Bible during his speeches? It doesn’t bother me that much, but I’m Christian and I believe in what he says (even if I don’t agree with it). What about the other people in this country that practice other religions?
7. I have a friend who think’s she’s being photographed in public restrooms. What paranoid delusion do you have? I used to think that lightning was going to come through my window and get me, lol. I’m over that now, thank goodness 😉
Bonus: Can’t you feel the weight of my stare? You’re staring? Sheesh. At least you notice me.
