Happy Birthday Wizard’s Quest!
StandardGosh, what a week for birthdays. Yesterday was Orli’s, and today is the WQ’s…I’ve only been a part of this web comp for about five months, but I’ve had fun all the way
here’s to a great year!
This or That
1. Window shades or blinds? I’d rather have shades, but I spent the last four years of my life with blinds, so I don’t really mind either. As long as it keeps the light out when it’s dark.
2. Wall or desk calendar? Wall calendars, always. I usually forget to turn the desk calendars. But those page-a-day calendars are cool. I’m still looking for an “inspiration-a-day” calendars like the one I had a few years ago.
3. Paint or wallpaper? Paint.
4. Electric or gas stove? Electric. Never had a gas stove, can you believe it?
5. Carpeting or bare floors? Carpet. AND a rug.
6. One TV, or more than one? Many is good. There’s always something else another channel on when you want to watch something.
7. Leather or fabric sofa? Fabric. Who wants to stick to the couch in the hot humid summers here in StL?
8. Eat meals in kitchen or dining room? We don’t have a dining room. We eat in the living room in front of the tv unless it’s a special occasion, for which we eat in the kitchen.
9. Fabric or vinyl shower curtain? Vinyl. With a fabric one outside so it doesn’t get wet 🙂
10. Your kitchen: well-equipped or bare bones? It’s too small to be well-equipped, but we get along.

1. Have you ever bought something you were so excited about and found out later that it didn’t work? Were you able to return it? How did it go? I do that alot, actually, but I don’t usually return it just because it’s not exciting. Course, it’s more with books than with actual machinery or something like that, and I slowly but squirrelly am getting rid of books I don’t read. But if something mechanical doesn’t work and my mom learns about it it usually goes back 🙂
2. I have a Palm (Pilot) for my date book and such, but have been thinking of jumping to the PocketPC world at some point. Do you have a PDA (personal digital assistant)? What kind, and how did you decide? What do you like about it? If you don’t own one, do you want one or do you do better without such gadgets? I used to have one of those electronic address/calendar things that was $5 when I was in high school. Then I just went back to the paper planner cause it made more sense to carry around something that wouldn’t matter if it got lost, and the little thing was such a pain to use that it eventually stopped getting used.
3. What illness do you wind up catching more than any other? Allergies. I’m not usually *sick* sick, just the occasional sniffle. I do get flus if there’s a bad one going around.
4. Do you like going to see the Doctor (any type)? Eh. Sometimes it’s good to know what’s going on, but all things considered I’d rather not have to go. It takes time out of work and you have to know what’s wrong with you cause you’re never going to exhibit any symptoms in front of the doctor.
5. How about the Dentist? Do you like going? Do you go in every 6 months for a check-up? Gaah. I went to the dentist this morning and they cleaned the hell out of my teeth. My mouth is still sore. I don’t like the dentist all that much, not cause I’m scared, but cause it takes so long and it hurts.
6. Are you a “Dog Person” or a “Cat Person?” Do you think a person’s choice tells you something about their personality? I’m a cat person, and that probably says something about me, but I don’t know what it is. Course, if I could, I’d chose a mountain lion as a pet, so that probably tells you something else. Think whatever you like.
7. I’ve mentioned before how me and a buddy of mine have just let our friendship lapse. There was no disagreement, but we’ve hit that point where we have nothing in common anymore. My life has progressed and he is still living in 1992. Have you ever had a friendship that just seems to have run its course? Where there is just nothing there anymore? What finally happened? Well, most of the “friends” that I had in high school sort of dumped me when I dumped them for Chris, who then dumped me…and you see where the rapid decline in self-esteem came from. I don’t know what it is, I guess I’m just not one of those people who makes friends easily. It’s sad that I have so few friends. Scratch that, real-life friends. I have plenty of online friends. That only presents a problem when you’re bored on a Friday night and don’t want to go out by yourself. (Alex, you don’t have to point out anything there.) Eh. I haven’t really answered the question and I don’t know if I will. Friends are sort of a sore spot for me.
BONUS: Do you want to see me beggin’ baby? Can’t you give me just one more day?
Damn, if only I had a boy beggin me for anything.
Happy Birthday, Orli!
StandardOur very own Orlando Bloom is 26 today. Doesn’t it seem weird to celebrate a celebrity’s birthday? Ah well. I even went so far as to create something for the Orlando Bloom Birthday Project:
Happy Birthday!
(ed. note: not the original. Don’t have the original on this comp so it’s the slightly blurry version from the mockup.)
This year is gonna be pretty good for him, don’t you think? 😉
Change your perspective
StandardTonight on Lakewood Family Church, Pastor Joel’s message was about how changing your perspective can make your life better. I probably need a dose of that. His example was how everyone thought Goliath was invincible until David showed them differently. Even though he was bigger, David saw something everyone else didn’t. The rest of the people saw Goliath as too big to beat, but David saw him as too big to miss. Your problems may be high, but God is Most High, and he’ll fight your battles for you.
Not to get all prosyletic on you, but I really need a prayer or two from you guys. I’m really depressed about work. I won’t have a job come February, and I’m looking for another. A grant fell through and I’m not knowledgeable for my job level, so there I go. I need something that I can feel useful and smart at, and let me be happy. Where are all those web design jobs?
I went on my last shopping spree before I’ll be jobless. Lots of books, a few dvds, a few cds. And some LotR:TTT valentines. so send me your addy and I’ll send you a valentine ![]()
Don’t forget to vote for me, please. I’d appreciate it muchly.
Friday Rant
StandardEither do not attempt it at all or go through with it.

I don’t have anything of importance to say. And what I was going to say disappeared into the ether, so we’ll try a different version.
I’m looking for a new job because this one is going kaput. Not enough money and not enough effort. My fault, her fault, everybody’s fault. I hope I can get another job on the WU campus so I can keep my benefits. I think I’d take a pay cut wherever I go. I did make a rather professional website for the lab, if I do say so myself: The Nolta Lab. Maybe they’ll keep paying me after I’m gone. Ha. I also made them a short-ish HTML primer. You can check it out too. Finally got around to making one.
I think it’s terribly ironic that they noticed I like computers so much. I mean, I feel like I tried to get away from doing things so creative and tried to do something scientific. It’s not working. There are more and more days when I feel like I should have just been an english major or an art student. But then I read articles like the ones in “Tissue Engineering” and I start thinking about my dreams again. I don’t know why I can’t keep my mind on my work. Or get a clue. I’m supposed to find a job that’s creative and analytical, an oxymoron if you ask me. Too bad I can’t get anyone to pay me for making websites. Why can’t I find a Lord of the Rings fan with loads of money who just wants someone to make websites for them? I suppose the best thing would be making graphics for a scientific company. I wonder where those jobs are?
I still want to do something in the biomedical engineering field. Specifically tissue engineering. I just don’t know if that’s going to happen. Kind of like I wonder if my novel will ever get published. I was reading an article at Sara Douglass’ site (she’s the author of the Wayfarer Redemption books) about how to get published…I have to think up a synopsis for Moonstone. But I’m too lazy to do it. Any volunteers?
I really need DSL at home, and a comp update. I keep not doing things cause it would require firing up this comp (on the laptop right now) and transferring everything with Zips and then uploading on the slow slow slow modem connection. Or waiting till I get to work where I’d still have to use the Zips cause of the wireless network fiasco. Ah well. Life was not meant to be easy, I suppose. And for those of you owed letters, I promise I will get them out to you soon. I’ve got the paper ready…I’ve just got to figure out something to write. I guess I should shush here so I have something else to write about!
Enjoy your weekends, melloneamin. I think I’ll sleep.
