50 years ago, the first organ transplant occurred. Way to go! Amazing that they can do that, even today. Thank goodness.
Good news is that I a) will have a new computer at work after New Years and b) I don’t have to come into work tomorrow! I can actually take vacation! Whee! So you won’t see me tomorrow. Thank goodness. It’s time for a break.
Happy Holidays!
StandardHope you all had a Merry Christmas or whatver holiday suits you best. I did pretty well with the presents 🙂 I thought about putting up something but I was just too lazy. Bad Jen. I still need to make some email presents for my buddies in the Philippines. Sorry I’m so late, guys!
There was supposed to be an entry earlier today, but the computer ate it. I think that was the first time that Firefox crapped out on me. Silly virtual memory paging file, whatever that means. Ah well.
I’m very excited about Kingdom of Heaven, Orlando’s next movie. Medival Orli, what more could I hope for? I do hope it’s not another Troy. As much as I liked that movie, it really wasn’t that good. But the trailer for KoH (which I’ve watched about ten times now) looks very good, slighly Gladiator-ish (not surprising, since Sir. Ridley Scott directed that too) and quite exciting. *crosses fingers* Sigh. This fangirl is impatient. May 6 2005, folks…and just so you know, when you do finally see the cool trailer, the music used at the end of it, at about 1:50, is from Jonathan Elias’ The Prayer Cycle, a very beautiful album. The song is from Movement III: Hope. Check it out.
Hope you all have a stunning New Years. We’ll see if I have anything new to talk about in the days to come 😉
it’s only a little gripe…
there’s no one here
StandardThere’s no one here yet, and it’s already 9:30…it’s a little weird being here in the lab with no one around. I just love going to work so much! *just a little bit of sarcasm* sigh. I’ll leave early today and hopefully get some cleaning and laundry done. Something that doesn’t require going outside. It’s SO cold! And it didn’t snow. *pouts* No white Christmas this year, I guess. Though why I keep hoping for one I’m not sure, as we almost never do have one…ah well. I didn’t want to drive in it anyway.
Thank you to all of you that sent Christmas cards. Hope you’re having a nice holiday! *can’t wait until tomorrow even though she has to get up and go to work*
pssst: what an ignoble post for #500! I’ve been doing this way too long. Thanks for the comments, guys 🙂 Although I did manage to finally get Categories displayed after the entry. Not yet on the individual ones, I’ll work on that sometime…
Fiona made me a gifte 🙂 Whee! That reminds me, haha. Gotta get working on mine…
I shouldn’t complain…much
Standard(we interrupt this blog to bring you an important message: Halleluja, the Half-Blood Prince is on the Horizon! JK Rowling has finally finished Book 6 of the Harry Potter series. Now we only have to wait for July 16 of next year. Sigh. What I wouldn’t give to have her successes. Back to your not-so-regularly scheduled blogging.)
I nearly want to cry. I have consigned myself to four and half months with no vacation, aside from spring break…sigh. I signed up for the second semester of Orgo today, and its attendant Saturday-at-8-freaking-AM lab. *wails* Not that I’m taking much vacation as it is, but I have totally destroyed any chances of a weekend trip until summer. Which is ok, I guess, since summer was always the plan for New York…right, Lell?
Speaking of Lell and by extension NaNo, I really need to finish Artorius Rex Novare. I still have the ideas, don’t get me wrong. And I find it funny how my best grade on an orgo test happened while I was combining studying and writing like a fiend. Huh. Still don’t know what the final grade was, it won’t be posted until Christmas, I don’t think. *crosses fingers that there’s a big curve*
but on a happier note: I finally got my Extended Edition of RotK from the parents. Even though I had been out late partying with coworkers for a going-away/Christmas party, I had to watch a bit of the first disc. And the easter egg…OMB, it was hilarious! Can’t wait to watch the rest, and drool over the little Legolas tidbits they offered us slobbering fangirls.
(side note: Apparently B. Dalton Booksellers are going out of business, at least in the mall near my house, which is really sad, because they’ve been there forever, it seems. On the upside though, everything in the store is 40% off. Yay cheap books.)
You know that Toyota commercial with the tire rolling by “scenes of life,” or however you’d describe it? Yet another example of a car company with a good commercial. The music was written especially for the spot, by a band you might know…that is, if you were a fan of Roswell, like me…Fisher wrote the short song which you can download from a link on their website. I love the Fisher songs I’ve heard, but dislike their connection to Roswell…it was part of the whole Max/Tess thing that I have to admit was beautifully filmed but made the Dreamer in me want to gag. Ahh, Roswell nostalgia.
I guess I’m glad that’s over
StandardMan, I can’t believe I made it through that orgo test. It had ‘fake’ multiple choice where you still had to do most of the work and some reaction questions and mostly stuff I didn’t know, which is silly and absurd given that I’ve spent the last four months griping about orgo. Sigh. It’s not nice. We’ll get our grades online soon, but the actual tests won’t come back until next semester’s class starts. Silly teacher, thinking we want to take the next section of orgo. Sigh. I guess it might be good for me someday, but all I can say now is, Dear God let there be a big curve.
Shortly I’m going to head out and possibly hit the mall to pick up King Arthur and maybe Daredevil Director’s Cut. And did you know that it’s the 40th anniversary of Mary Poppins? lol. And then I’m going (FINALLY!) pick up my RotK dvd 🙂 yay! LotR goodness! sigh. I’m such a fangirl.

So this isn’t solely an ad post, I can ramble a bit about studying for orgo, and how very sad I am that the stupid final is Monday so I won’t get to spend much time with the wonderful people coming into town for the holidays this weekend. I am finding it immensely hard to keep my mind on orgo, even without the temptation to pop in the RotK:EE, since I don’t have it 😉 Grudgingly I admit that it’s good that Mom is holding onto it for me. But I just want to touch it…lol. So sorry Molly and Alex and Leo that I’ll only be able to see you for a short time on Sunday. It looks like I really shouldn’t even go carolling with the AHS drama alums, as much as I would like to. I suppose I’ll have to resign myself to singing along with my Christmas cds and KEZK, the soft rock Christmas station.
I hope that Molly and I get to watch RotK together sometime, and Leo needs to watch HP 3…sigh. I keep thinking that I’ve got a break coming up or something, even though I don’t, really. Well, I guess I could take some vacation while there are no classes, but I guess I’m still stuck on the “christmas vacation from school” thing, even though it’s been two years. Bah. I really do need to take vaca anyway. Here’s to Jen and Lell going to NY! Yeah. Next summer.
Oh, why don’t you head over here and check out these story banners? Well, there’s only the one right now, hopefully there can be more uploaded later. I like hosting people.
I guess I should get back to voting and studying. Sigh. What a way to spend a friday night.
StandardSomeone pointed out on one of the numerous LotR livejournals that this time last year we were all waiting for the King… ahh, LotR nostalgia. It makes me very sad that there isn’t anything else to wait for, except perhaps a massive soundtrack collection of all the music from the movies, which I would adore, but it won’t be the same…this is the first december without a midnight premiere, and I don’t know why, but it makes me sad. Just had to slip in a LotR quote there. I don’t know when or if there will be something like these movies that so inspires the fangirl in me. Spider-man and Harry Potter perhaps approach it (I have seen both the Spidey movies on opening night/midnight, after all) but they’re not at the same level.
so who’s up for a movie marathon? 😉
Oh, and happy birthday Miranda Otto (Eowyn)! I can’t believe it’s past the ides of the month. sigh. *keeps telling herself that there’s still four days until the orgo final*
I know it’s there
Standardyeah, so my mom called me to let me know that she has a rather large box waiting for me at home. sigh. I so want to go home and just steal it out of the house, but I bet she’s got it hidden for just that reason 😉 the agony of waiting! It’s not fair…but I will concede that if I had it right now I would be watching it if I could, and not studying. Well, I’m not really studying now anyway, but you get the point. I really do need to be studying; doing pointless nothings right now in a massive procrastination effort, trying not to think about the RotK:EE. Yeah. Not helped by all the people on LJ who are posting about their EE experience…oh, and check out Etoile’s (not me, lol) music section, it’s a nice introduction to the music of the Lord of the Rings, which, unless you are hard of hearing you love just as much as I do 😉 *seethes silently at the waiting* *tries to get into an orgo mood* *giggles and the closeness of ‘orgo’ to ‘orgy’* Sigh. I’m going bonkers. Wish me luck on orgo!
the little annoying things
StandardComment spam really sucks, and I’m worried that it’s knocking other (legitimate) people off the blog. Sigh. No one’s commented since the beginning of the month. I’ve done test comments myself and know that comments work…some people have reported getting 404s when they click the comment link. I don’t know what that’s from, because the site shows up fine where I am, on two different computers. If you are having a problem posting a comment and you can’t (for some reason) use the 404 form to send me where you got the error, please send an email to me at etoiline [at] etoiline [dot] com and I’ll see what I can do.
One of these days I guess I’ll break down and upgrade to MT 3, even though there are some things that I don’t like about it. And I’ve got to start thinking of a new layout, not that I don’t still love Peter 🙂 I know that the index page is a little slow to load, forgive me for being on the high-speed at work. But I like having everything there on the front page…alas. I’m just a wannabe techie. Whatever. I’ll shush now, as this too-long entry was just so I would remember that link about a possible spam-basher. We’ll see. Please comment so I know you’re out there!
just a little something to smile about
Standard
Appropriate, don’t you think, since this site is all about the stars?
Of course, there’s always the award-o-matic if you need a little pick me up 🙂
Hey, are you voting for me in the topsite? Yeah. Didn’t think so 😉
Should I or shouldn’t I go to the Q&A orgo class tonight? I just don’t know. I don’t have any questions right now, and at the rate I’m going with this voting thing, I doubt I will by then…stupid me not ever being able to ask questions when I have them and never having them when I need them…bah. orgo sucks. back to voting and faffing about with Excel.
