PromoGuy’s Monday Mission 3.22

1. One thing that really annoys me is when someone at work will just start clipping their fingernails at their desk. In most cases, it is men who do this, which only makes it worse. I can’t explain why this grates on my nerves, but when I hear that “click-click-click” of the clippers, I just imagine nasty fingernail fragments flying everywhere. What habit do people have that drives you crazy but doesn’t seem to bother anyone else? That bugs me too. ‘Course, so do dubbed/edited for content movies, people driving too slow, and instructors who’ve forgotten what it’s like to be a stressed-out college student. Those things don’t just bother me though, I’m pretty sure.

2. I just had to replace the compressor in my car. That was $400 I didn’t have that is now gone. Have you had any expensive car trouble recently? Well, we just *bought* a new car…

3. A friend of mine came over for dinner with us this recently, and brought her baby. At only 8 months he is as cute as the dickens, but when he got hungry, his momma just whipped out her boob for him to start chowin’ down on. Among friends orΒ  family I can see why she wouldn’t be shy, but it still made me a little uncomfortable. I realize it is a natural function and wonderful bonding experience, but I wasn’t ready to be a part of it. How do you feel about mothers who breastfeed their children in public? At what age do you think they should stop? I think it’s great. But it does seem a little odd, and if I saw some lady doing that at the bus stop I’d feel quite weird.

4. I was watching the “Antiques Road Show” recently, and the resident “expert” presented the “Atari 2600” game system as a popular collectible. I am now officially OLD! Do you recall the first item from your youth that became an “antique” and made you feel old and how you felt? Or if it hasn’t happened, yet, what item do you think it will be and how do you expect it to make you feel? Some of the Barbies that I had when I was little are collectibles now. Same for other various and sundry toys, not that I could get any money for the toys I actually had. They all got used hard and put away wet. umm. I was just thinking about this the other day and I can’t think of what it was that made me feel old. Ah well. Probably better that I don’t depress myself like that πŸ˜‰

5. It started raining last night as I was going to bed. Not storming or a hard rain, just a nice rainfall. The pitter-patter of raindrops hitting the window made for a peaceful way to drift to sleep (and also made it hard to wake up this morning). Do you like rainy days/nights? What type of weather makes you feel relaxed? I’m a night owl (in case you haven’t noticed) so I usually like the evenings better. Now, I like mornings and how everything looks bright and shiny and there’s usually a crispness to the air, but I’d much rather sleep in.

6. We used to joke about the retired couple across the street. Every night, they would pull out their lawn chairs, sit in their driveway and watch the world go by. We laughed about how someone would just waste away their life like that. Now 8 years later, I pull out the lawn chairs and we find ourselves doing exactly the same thing. Life has a way of making one humble. Have you ever found that you have become that which you once ridiculed? Probably. I remember in high school I swore I’d never wear spandex to work out in…sigh. it’s one of the best things you can work out in. There’s probably more but I’m not thinking too well right now.

7. Have you ever sent an e-mail to the wrong person? What was the most embarrassing experience you remember? Well, the other week I sent an email to my friend saying I’d written her a letter when I’d really written one to another friend in the same area…but it’s all good cause she’ll get a letter just a little later than if I’d actually sent it on that day…sorry May!

BONUS: You know, you got me spellbound what else can it be? Seriously? I never spellbind anyone. Must be my magical personality *sarcasm*

I'm Luthien
Congratulations! You are Luthien, the fair, but
unfortunate Elven Princess. You fell in love
with Beren, a mortal man, and had to give up
your immortality.

You are the foremother of Elrond and Elros, and you
are the beautifullest woman who has ever lived.

So – go you!

The Friday Five

1. What do you most want to be remembered for? I’d say my contribution to humanity but right now I don’t have one. Working on it though.

2. What quotation best fits your outlook on life? Remember that you are needed. There is at least one important work that will not be done unless you do it. Charles Allen.

3. What single achievement are you most proud of in the past year? Mmm. Learning how to sew? I graduated college, though that was technically over a year ago, now…

4. What about the past ten years? probably something related to my senior year track season…

5. If you were asked to give a child a single piece of advice to guide them through life, what would you say? Don’t give in, run to win. We must run with endurance the race set out for us. (I Corinthians something…you’d think after all these years I’d remember which verse. Sigh.)

The Elven Brooch

Standard

I started making the elven brooch last night. For such a simple-looking thing, it’s pretty difficult to get right. Add to that it’s been some years since I’ve done any clay work, and you might gather it’s been an interesting experience. And I had green thumbs because the clay is super-saturated with color. We’ll see if it looks anything like the real one. And I suppose it doesn’t matter anyway as it’s significantly cheaper. Now if I can only figure out how to make the quiver…and how on earth am I supposed to get the not-knives to California?
Go visit Sara. She’s got a great Matrix layout.
Yes, Virginia, there is a St. Louis Renaissance Festival and I want to go! Should I dress up?

Ok. If you read the other blog you’d realize that the computer at home went (hopefully temporarily) kaput. So all through the long weekend I was without computer/internet *sob* but it’s ok cause I finished the muslin for my costume. Now all I’ve got to do is cut the fabric and sew the darn thing. Ha. Like that will be so easy. Anyway, being that the comp is down, the Monday and the Tuesday Memes are going to be on Tuesday. So deal.

PromoGuy’s Monday Mission 3.21

1. What’s the worst thing about Mondays? realizing you’ve got five days till the weekend. And just plain getting up.

2. Do you believe in soul mates? Have you met yours yet? I believe it’s possible, and even want to have a soul mate, but I’m also practical in that I know not every fantasy of mine is going to come true.

3. What do you recall wanting to “be” when you were a child, dreams of what you’d do when you were an adult for work – who you’d live with… where you’d live… how many kids you’d have. How does the dreams you once had compare to your reality, same, much different? You have surpassed those dreams? I haven’t really gotten past any of my dreams yet…I still want to be an artist, work with stem cells, publish my book…but I’d like to think I’m on my way to achieving some of them.

4. What do you think of education in your town/city? In your country? How would you improve it? I like my town, but there’s not too much to do at night. I like my country and wish I could see more of it, but I definitely want cheaper health care/insurance. Now that I have to pay for it myself I see where all the fuss is coming from!

5. If you had to pick three songs to sum up your life what would they be and why? 3×5, where the streets have no name, and chariots of fire. Don’t ask.

6. Do you believe in love at first sight? Can it really happen? God I hope so.

7. What’s your greatest fear? falling from something very high. Seriously, failing at life, not achieving my dreams.

BONUS: Have you forgotten? Which particular thing did you think I forgot? There’s several, I think…

and the Tuesday This or That

1. Do you prefer silence or do you like background sound (music, TV, etc)? Almost always I need background or I go crazy. More likely I just start humming anyway.

2. Bathe/shower in morning or evening? Evening. I hate going to bed dirty.

3. Sleeping in complete darkness, or with a nightlight on? Darkness is good for sleeping.

4. Lay out clothes the night before, or just grab what’s closest in the morning? Depends on how late I got to bed the night before.

5. Hang up/fold clothes neatly, or just toss them wherever? Unless it’s cleaning fit time, pile on the dresser.

6. Work out at a gym, or at home on your own (or do you not bother with exercise)? not the gym, per se, but not at home…usually the track *outside* the gym πŸ˜‰ that is, if I ever get back into exercising. rats.

7. Talk on the phone, or via IM/e-mail? IM if I can…I don’t like the phone.

8. Are you usually on time, or late? I arrive precisely when I mean to. Which is usually on the late side of on time.

9. Spendthrift or frugal? Unless I’m buying books or cds, frugal.

10. Thought-Provoking Question of the Week: You work with someone who is not in the habit of bathing regularly. The smell seems to be getting worse and worse! Would you: 1. try to do something about it, or 2. try to grin and bear it? If you said 1, what would you do? I would politely place potpourri sacs in their drawers, put soap in prominent places, and buy them a new set of washcloths and towels.

Bonnie is back! Whoohoo! Go visit my sib. Sara is on hiatus but you can see her spiffy Coldplay layout at her blog. And it’s not so new, but Moll is a genius.
what do you think, Matrix layout next? Take a break from the monotony of Orli? or perhaps John Mayer. Probably John Mayer. With lyrics from “3×5” and “Why Georgia.” We’ll see.
Egad but I hope we fix the computer. Else we’re gonna have to lug up the old iMac and attempt to hook that up to the internet…

major arrgh

Standard

so last weekend was Memorial Day weekend, right? Nice long weekend, yeah? Well. I was busy working on my costume muslin on friday and saturday nights, so I didn’t turn on the computer until late late saturday night (it was probably sunday by that time) and what do I see instead of the nice “Welcome to Mac OS” screen? A little floppy disc with a flashing question mark. Self, I says, this is not a good sign. So I left it until morning, cause it was late, and lo and behold the same thing shows up the next day. And the next. So I was without a computer (not to mention the internet) for the entire weekend! Aaaahhhhh! Being the holiday, there was no one we could call…the upside was that I finished the muslin and now have laid out all the pattern pieces. All that’s left is to cut *gasp* the fabric and sew it together…like that’s going to be easy or something *g* I’ve got to find some fabric for the trousers as well. And then it’s onto the props, which could be fun or scary. I’ve got some metal that I can cut into knife shapes, but then how would I get it out to Cali? Would they let me mail it, do you think? Don’t I wish I lived in Cali. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, I suppose. Gotta make the quiver and such, and I’ll try to make a few arrows, and we’ve gotta make the elven brooch. Just so you know, “we” refers to my mother and I, as she’ll probably make the pin and maybe the knife handles.
So, good weekend stuff was the pattern getting done. Bad bad bad computer! Sigh. Hopefully we either a) get it fixed soon or b) get a new comp, which is not likely to happen as we’re buying a new car. Too bad we’re not rich. Soon, grasshopper…
so if you don’t see me online, that’s why. also why your emails might have bounced, lol.

the friday five

1. What brand of toothpaste do you use? Crest MultiCare+Whitening.

2. What brand of toilet paper do you prefer? Charmin’s what we have at home, and I love their new scented rolls πŸ˜‰ but if it’s just me I go for whatever’s cheapest.

3. What brand(s) of shoes do you wear? New Balance running shoes. Although haven’t been doing any running lately. sigh.

4. What brand of soda do you drink? Coke, if I must drink soda. I hate Pepsi. But I usually drink water or milk so it’s sort of a moot point.

5. What brand of gum do you chew? Cinnamon Icebreakers or Winterfresh.

Surviving

Standard

Work’s going pretty well. I’m really leaning in the direction of an apartment. Course, the apartment means I have to buy the Saturn and pay all the insurance for it, and then a monthly rent check…and actually buying food every week! Eh. Money goes too fast. Esp. when you go to bookstores on whims and buy $60 more than you spent on clothes. Yes. I know. book freak. I often wonder how many books I have…perhaps it’s reached a thousand. I certainly have hundreds of cds. I actually made a list of some of them the other night. Over 150 and that’s not all of them. Borders was made for me. I could live there if they had better food.
It’s funny, cause I can’t see myself doing the technician thing forever, but I’ve got to (sort of) resign myself with doing this for at least a year so I can get maximum benefit. Maybe longer, who knows? And maybe then the super-upper-level education. Who knows? At least I get Memorial day off wink
When I get home I’m gonna start working on the costume again. I’ve got a fair looking muslin made up, if you ignore the fact that it’s too short and the sleeves don’t work with it yet…and somehow I have to make up props. A girl emailed me about making a skit for Comic-Con…so I’ve really got to get cracking!
and now I must be going…time for home!
