Friday Five
1. Would you consider yourself an organized person? Why or why not? Sometimes I get in an organizing mood. Most times I’m content to know where things are.
2. Do you keep some type of planner, organizer, calendar, etc. with you, and do you use it regularly? I write things on my page-a-day calendar sometimes…right now haven’t had too much to plan. Hopefully with the new job my life will be a little less boring.
3. Would you say that your desk is organized right now? Hell. No.
4. Do you alphabetize CDs, books, and DVDs, or does it not matter? Occasionally. My CDs are sort of organized by type, but not really. Most of them are in a pile by the stereo.
5. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to organize? My thousands of books. Really.

Emode.com – What’s Your Fame and Fortune?
Jennifer, you’re likely to find fame and fortune in the Scientific World.
Well at least they don’t think the last four years of college were a waste. Btw, I got the job with the lab. Hopefully I will be confident enough in myself to do it.
News of the weird
Standardor just news of my life. Here’s a roundup of the last week or so.
Saw X2 on opening night with Alex. Great movie. Bang-up beginning and a pretty good ending. I’ve decided that all these comic-to-movie translations are just going to be open-ended enough to allow for sequels so I can’t let it bug me. Nice special effects and a decent plot. Cyclops, man, suck it up. She ain’t dead. Wolverine. What can you say about the guy who doesn’t die even with a bullet almost in his brain? Storm is cool. Let me just hold up my arms and lightning will come from the stars. lol. Didn’t like Jean Grey’s haircut. Dunno. Too seventies for me. Liked her part in the end. I like Nightcrawler, even if you couldn’t understand him sometimes. I like how they did the transporting effect. Have to say the Matrix Reloaded trailer made more of an effect on me. lol. Can’t wait for next thursday. Anyone up for a premiere screening? It just looks cool. The music for the trailer is good too. Remember how I like soundtracks? Spent a few hours at the library today just watching various trailers. I miss broadband so much. Maybe when I get my own apartment I can get cable/dsl. God willing and an actual job. After the car, of course. Oh, and the new computer.
Last weekend sometime I finally got the Da Vinci Code from the library after being on hold for a month or more…it was really good, and really fast, reading. I got it about 3 in the afternoon and had it finished by 3 in the morning. Nice mystery, and I even felt like I might have figured things out before the characters did. Of course, it was probably written that way, but it made me feel good. On the other hand, there were definitely things I did not get, which nearly made me slap myself on the forehead and say “D’oh!” sigh. Go read the book if you’re at all interested in art, mystery, the Knights Templar, Goddess theory, or cryptography. Yeah.
It’s a week of season finales. I hate and love this period. Usually the ending eps are pretty good, and I suppose the two I’ve seen have been…Alias season two is over, and we’re gonna be wondering about that one for the entire summer. It was nearly as bad as the smallville finale last year. There are so many things that were left hanging. Ah well. There’s always reruns, which is good, cause I think I missed a couple of eps.
Angel made its last run tonight, hopefully not for the *very* last time. A pretty good one, with the previous ep actually tying up the loose ends. This one introduced something new to Angel Inc which could be good or bad. Not sure which yet. An ending that pulls on the heartstrings, of course. lol. At least Connor is smart in the end. Went from a oh-my-God-he-did-it to awwww. Watch it and you’ll see what I mean. If you must know I’ll tell you privately.
Two eps of Buffy left. Forever. And at last, Angel will return to Sunnydale. I don’t know what they’re gonna do together, since the last time they were “together” only happened in Angel’s memories. I think. I have to say I’m a Buffy/Angel shipper, which I only relate to you because…eh. Doesn’t really matter, does it? I’ve always been a conventional shipper. Max/Liz, Buffy/Angel, Rhapsody/Ashe, the way they’re supposed to be. Anyway. Intrigued to see how they’ll end a show that has had its ups and very downs after seven years. Glad I got to see all of them last year, so I’ve seen the whole seven seasons. Too bad I’m not a slayer-in-training.
Tuesday I finally had a meeting with the guy from Hanger Prosthetics. Been a busy time. I really like him and the people I met, seems like it could be a great job. But that day before I went to the meeting I got a call from a lab I’d visited a while before and they said they’d like to offer me the job…I find it extremely ironic that once again I have two jobs at the same time. I’ll probably end up with the lab job, unless what I learn about it tomorrow proves it’s completely wrong for me. And I’ll usually try anything once. I’m still interested in the prosthetics lab, which maybe I can work partime or volunteer. We’ll see. Wish me luck. I hate making decisions like this.
I’ve been writing bits and pieces here and there of Moonstone and Decadence. I’m trying. I just haven’t been in the writing mood, or if I have, I’ve been too lazy to fire up the laptop. It’s just such a pain to have to transfer from the one to the other. Eh. If only we had a network. Alas. Not to be. I’ll try to write as I can. I’ll try to sew as I can…made a pretty decent muslin for the silver frock. We’ll see what comes of that…and perhaps one day I’ll get to the guitar. ah.

This or That: The Media Edition
1. TV or radio? Radio. (cds, anyway.)
2. On the radio: talk or music station? music. can’t stand talk radio unless it’s a science program. Not NPR!
3. Actual books or books-on-tape (or e-books)? actual books.
4. Actual newspaper, or web version? actual newspaper. I like writing on the crosswords.
5. Wall Street Journal or National Enquirer? Neither.
6. TV news…news channel such as CNN, or your local broadcast news? Local news.
7. A movie you’ve been looking forward to seeing gets bad reviews all around. See it anyway, or pass? Depends on why I wanted to see it in the first place. If it’s for an actor or actress I like, probably see it anyway. If it’s just that it sounds interesting but has a bad plot, well, that’s what cable’s for.
8. See movies when they first come out, or wait a few weeks for the lines at the theater to get shorter? Most movies have to wait for cable. Only a select few get premiere nights. Like Lord of the Rings, for example, or Pirates of the Caribbean…see a trend? haha.
9. TV: cable, satellite dish, or just plain old antenna? cable.
10. Thought-provoking question of the week: If you had to choose only one form of media to come into your home, which would you choose…print (newspapers, magazines) or electronic (TV, internet)? Why? Internet. As long as I could have a fast modem. Then you could practically get everything, and as long as the comp has a dvd drive, you’re all set…*coughcough* bootlegs *cough*
Merry Cinco de Mayo! Have a shot for me.
PromoGuy’s Monday Mission 3.18
1. Are there any confrontations you have been avoiding that you know you will eventually have to deal with? What’s that all about? Well, just now there is one…once again caught between two jobs. Fill you in on the other blog.
2. When was the last time you surprised yourself by being more brave than you ever thought you could be? Umm. Rock climbing? I’m not that brave.
3. You know that sickly feeling you get when are speeding and out of the corner of your eye you realize you just passed a hidden police car? It is that “deer-caught-in-the-headlights” feeling, where you are so busted there is no way out. When was the last time you were in a situation like that? Just the other night before the X-men premiere. I was going a little too fast. I always heard that you’re not supposed to put on your brakes, just take your foot off the accelerator. I guess that’s worked for me, cause even with those silly traps on Big Bend I’ve never gotten stopped for speeding…
4. One of the things I’ve had to do recently, is clean out my attic. I have an amazing amount of things I’ve collected over the years, and I am almost embarrassed that I still have so much of it. I realized that I may as well sell it, since it does me no good in the attic, and when I die, my family will probably sell it for a dollar a pound at a garage sale anyway. May as well enjoy the money now. Do you have any things stored away that you just can’t get rid of but will probably of no sentimental value to anyone once you are gone? Why do we hang on to that stuff? Do you think you could sell or auction it off? You are talking to a pack rat so of course there’s lots of junk here that means nothing to anyone else. I hang on to it under the mistaken idea that I might use it again some day or it will be worth something some day. It’s most likely not true. I could probably sell some of it, but that would require getting into it and going through it…ugh.
5. I’ve become the resident Handler at the house. Got bugs? Call me! Flies, ants, spiders, I’m your man. Vomit? Dog Poo? Toilet overflow? Yep, I get it all clean. Not much bothers me in that area, and I am glad really to be someone you can rely on. But the one thing that does make me squirm are injuries. Stitches, incisions, bloody puss-laden bandages, heavily scabbed areas, all that just about does me in. What are some of the things you have a strong stomach for, and what are some of the things that can turn your stomach? I’ve got a good stomach for just about anything. However, digging those robin’s eggs from my mom’s art was almost too much. I had to ask my mom to keep talking to me so I could concentrate on that instead of my archeology expedition. They were actual eggs that had fallen out of a nest during a storm, so the embryos inside were already dead, but when I dug them out of the art, they just squished. That…ew. I don’t want to gross you out so I’ll stop.
6. I am at the point where I am going to have to make some tough decisions about the future of this blog. I think this sort of moment comes to all bloggers at some point. For me, I am not very good at managing my obsessions (read as: things I enjoy passionately). Eventually they get too much focus and something that once was good begins to impact my life in negative ways. Something’s got to give. Have you ever been involved in an experience that started out as something good and enjoyable but eventually became destructive and bad for your health (mentally or physically)? Reading is my lifeline, but it gets in the way so much. I just want to read and read, but no one’s paying me…
7. Do you believe in evolution or creationism or something else? I believe in God and I believe in science. I think they are compatible.
Bonus: Are you trying to tempt me? Probably not. I don’t think I tempt anyone.
The Friday Five
1. Name one song you hate to admit you like. Anything by Ricky Martin.
2. Name two songs that always make you cry. Butterfly Kisses made me cry once. But I don’t usually cry at anything except emotional distress. Not at movies, songs, musicals, whatever. I just don’t.
3. Name three songs that turn you on. Your Body is a Wonderland. Downfall. Saint Tropez.
4. Name four songs that always make you feel good. Anything Lord of the Rings. Now We Are Free. Canto Alla Vita. 3×5.
5. Name five songs you couldn’t ever do without. The TTT soundtrack, 3×5, Where the Streets Have No Name, Imana Nushif, the end credits of Glory.
Highlight of the month
StandardX-Men 2 comes out today…
Sad when your highlight is a movie premiere.
I still don’t have a job. How pathetic is that? And I’ve really grown to hate it when jobs you apply for never get back to you. Sigh. Pet Peeve #4798.
April 29: The *Take Comfort* Edition
Take Comfort: Which is more comforting for you…
1. Lying down on the couch, or stretching out on a recliner? Couch.
2. Going barefoot or wearing soft slippers? Socks.
3. Eating ice cream, or pizza? Pizza.
4. Watching on TV…a classic movie or a reality show? Not a classic movie, per se, but movies over reality shows almost anytime.
5. Wearing: blue jeans or sweat pants? Jeans.
6. A long, soothing bubble bath or a quick, invigorating shower? Shower.
7. Furniture: leather, or something more on the fuzzy side? Fuzzy.
8. Soft, classical music, or upbeat rock & roll? Rock & roll, but more likely it’s a soundtrack 🙂
9. Darkness or light? twilight.
10. Thought-provoking question of the week: You get married, or otherwise begin cohabitating with a significant other. S/he moves into your place, but brings with them the UGLIEST chair you have ever seen! You really don’t want this thing in your home, but SO says it is the most comfy chair s/he has ever sat in, and no way will they part with it. Do you: grin and bear it, or scheme to get rid of the montrosity somehow? I’d grin and bear it and make them a den in the back of the house so only his friends would see.
Some things new
Standardyou might notice a thing or two different about the site. Click around and you’ll see.
Congrats to both the WU women’s and men’s track teams. They won the UAA conference championships this past weekend in Cleveland. You go, team! I wish I was there. Sigh.
Someday – All4One (from The Hunchback of Notre Dame soundtrack)
Someday
When we are wiser
When the world’s older
When we have learned
I pray
Someday we may yet live
To live and let live
Someday
Life will be fairer
Need will be rarer
Greed will not pay
God speed
This bright millennium
On its way
Let it come
Someday
Someday
Our fight will be won then
We’ll stand in the sun then
That bright afternoon
Till then
On days when the sun is gone
We’ll hang on
Wish upon the moon
There are some days dark and bitter
Seems we haven’t got a prayer
But a prayer for someday better
Is the one thing we all share
Someday
When we are wiser
When the world’s older
When we have learned
I pray
Someday we may yet live
To live and let live
Someday
Life will be fairer
Need will be rarer
Greed will not pay
God speed
This bright millennium
Let it come
Wish upon the moon
One day
Someday
Soon.
wish me luck on my interview tomorrow. Be sure to check out the new Aspire Gallery for links to some of my artwork, and ask me anything!
